"Maki Ramen Southside is an authentic Japanese sushi bar, a 5-minute walk from Edinburgh's Royal Mile. With its distinctive outer and working ramen noodle workshop on display on passersby, it is difficult not to go to the restaurant to dine under the beautiful lanterns! Upon arrival we were encouraged to take our hands and face masks during the movement through the restaurant (the new normal! . With social distancing measures in place, each table had its own COVID friendly Perspex screen that allows us to feel more comfortable and even added an element of intimacy to our evening (also help to hide our lack of chipstick feelings from other eaters! So after we get a advice from our waitress, we have on 1 ramen, 3 pages and 10 pieces sushi (of course share! We ordered the Beef Tataki Ramen, Pork Gyoza Dumplings, Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Chicken Katsu Cucumber Tokoyo Roll, and finally the grilled Eel Nigiri! With each tasting as different as what we are also used, it is almost impossible to choose a favorite dish, but the dish we were both surprised by most, the Grilled Eel Nigiri was incredible! Whether you are looking for sushi, freshly made in their sushi bar and kitchen, or a bowl with homemade noodles daily in their house workshop, you are guaranteed to experience a dish that not only fresh but only from the heart of the chefs who created it."

Stopped in and had a ramen bowl which was great. Nice and spicy my friend had pumpkin and edamame rolls which he enjoyed as well

To be fair, I didn't try much vegan ramen, but that was delicious. It has changed since the other reviews since they now have a whole vegan menu with riddles, sushi, kimchi etc. Beautiful staff and great atmosphere decoration

The food was amazing! I've been to Maki Ramen near the Omni centre before so I knew what to expect and they didn't disappoint. The ramen is great value (the bowl is massive) and the atmosphere is nice. The noodles being made in the front of the restaurant is a nice touch as well!

The Maki Ramen on South Bridge has a more informal feel than its other locations, and specialises in ramen and other comfort food. I had the miso ramen, and they swapped out the egg noodles for rice noodles to make it vegan. It was really delicious, and wonderfully comforting on a cold day!

There was an update on her menu, as this branch opens again, I think. Options that could be veganized were no longer marked. There is a vegan ramen, but it doesn't sound very appealing. The veganized fog wheels I went for were pretty poor, especially the broth that was only watery. It just felt a bit like they made a step backwards with their vegan offers.

There was a change to the menu when this restaurant reopened, it seems. Choices that could be made vegan were no longer easily identifiable. There is a vegan option available, but it doesn't sound particularly appetizing. The veganized pho dish that I ordered was disappointing, especially the broth which was thin and lacking in flavor. It felt like a step backwards in terms of their vegan offerings.

I had heard about Maki and Ramen from friends who are not vegan, and the restaurant always seemed busy, so I guess it was good. But when I finally went to try, I was not very happy with the lack of vegan options. I had the misery without egg, and honestly was quite simple. The restaurant was too crowded, it was hard to hear the other people at my table only 50 cm from me. I understand that for Nonvegans the food is really good, but for me I was not very impressed.
