"Firstly what lovely staff. So helpful, welcoming and friendly. We chose this pub, due to the TripAdvisor rating, being dog friendly and thst it looked lovely on the outside. A traditional country pub and we hoped for great food too! However... They were terribly understaffed to cope with the amount of people there. We could hear other tables questioning missing items or wait time. Which meant it felt unorganized. My main criticism was I think they are trying too hard to make the food 'posher ' crushed peas with my steak for example instead of normal peas. Although my steak was very nice, my husband 's mixed grill was expensive for what it was. With dry, overdone meats. And again an odd combination e.g. pulled pork. It is important to perfect the basics before making improvements/adjustments to a menu. It was a shame as it has such potential. Generally clean and tidy with a nice little garden outside I really want to love it here. But eating out is expensive nowadays and a luxury. You want things to be spot-on and therefore enjoyable. I think we will try it again one day in hope we could give a deserved five stars."

Great food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The pub food was delicious, and the beer garden was a nice touch. The toilets were clean, and there was plenty of parking available.

We stay 1 night at The Masons Arms as we were attending a funeral the next day. The room and the facilities were excellent. The staff and their and their attention to detail was also good.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast at this restaurant. The place was clean and the service was excellent. The staff went out of their way to make our meal enjoyable and even welcomed our two dogs. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Lovely old thatched pub in a very peaceful village, about 9 miles from Ilminster. Our stay was outstanding, the shepherds hut was so cozy and dog friendly too. All the staff at the Mason Arms were warm and very welcoming. Food service was first class. We look forward to returning for another relaxing break, thank you

During our visit to the National Trust Montacute House, we stumbled upon this pub nearby that had good reviews on TripAdvisor. It was a wonderful discovery, as we received a warm welcome and enjoyed an outstanding lunch. We ordered three starters and one main course, along with two drinks and a coffee, and the total bill came to £41 plus service charge.

We camped for one night on our way to Cornwall. Very helpful staff who helped us find a better, more level pitch when I explained I suffer from vertigo. My only slight concern is that I'm not entirely comfortable with shared (ie both sexes) toilet/shower facilities, especially when there are just two toilets and two showers. I it's a personal preference thing and I totally understand that this is the best solution when space is so limited. We ate in the pub and the food was good. Standard pub fare, really, and there's nothing wrong with that!

Stayed here with a friend after a funeral we had been to in the area as it would otherwise have been a long drive home. First thing to mention is the staff absolutely delightful. Helpful, funny and attentive without being intrusive absolutely spot on. Whoever owns this pub should be proud of them all. The rooms are lovely have everything you need and the en suite had one of the biggest baths I have ever seen. All was well stocked and spotless. The food was good, especially breakfast all locally sourced and very tasty. All in all an excellent stay, would definitely stay again if in the area.

We stayed last night couple with dog and enjoyed a meal there with family that live locally. The room was well appointed, clean and comfortable, and really dog friendly, they were happy to provide dog beds, towels, bowls etc , though we did bring our own. There was also info on local vets , walks etc. Also a small dog walking area in the grounds useful for just before bed! The evening meal was really nice and everyone enjoyed their choices. Good variety of drinks on offer including cocktails. Breakfast was good quality ingredients and nice and hot though we did have to pre order the evening before We will definitely return when visiting the area again

"Our first visit to The George Inn at Donyatt, we've drove by it time's going to other places and it always looks such a nice place. We decided to have lunchtime meal there to celebrate our anniversary and weren't disappointed, beamed ceilings, log burner and brick fireplace, farm tools and pictures on the walls cosy and oldie worldy with friendly locals just how we like our pubs. The staff and owner were really friendly, polite and chatted to us as if we locals from the village, the waitresses were smartly dressed, polite attentive always smiling, cheerful, charming and chatty. Even the chef nodded and smiled to us the couple of times he walked through and the bar and table areas were spotlessly clean. Our meals starters and mains were absolutely fantastic and amazing as was the presentation, they were hot good amounts of food with tender succulent meats and vegetables and the mashed potatoes were creamy smooth and light and have never had better. There's a good selection of beers and I had local ale which was amazing, clear, cool with a nice head and tasted like nectar. We will definitely be coming back soon and we can definitely recommend this pub, restaurant and hotel to family, friends, neighbours and anyone. A very big well done and thank you to the owners, all the staff especially the chef, please please please keep this pub the way it is, it's an absolute treasure and gem of a place to find. YOU ALL MADE OUR ANNIVERSARY VERY SPECIAL Especially in these times when a majority of local village pubs are closing down and being turned into houses or flats, we must all support our local village pubs like The George Inn."
