"We visited this little pub a few times for dinner whilst staying at Hadrian's Wall campsite only a mile away. Despite stormy weather it was an amusing yet exhilarating walk along a VERY Roman road to get to this place. The pub is small but very cosy with open fires. As we were here over the Winter Solstice it felt very festive with the fires lit. The staff were very friendly and the decor of the little rooms was pleasant with a table with the Sycamore (now sadly felled) at Sycamore Gap printed on it. There was a statue of a Roman Soldier standing on a window ledge. We ate here twice and the food was homemade, reasonably priced, hot and delicious...hand cut chips!! I had the salmon one night on a bed of crushed potatoes and it was a simply excellent meal. Really impressed with the food, service, atmosphere, and the location cannot be beaten. We will be back, although I can imagine it gets horrendously busy in Summer."

Two great cask ales lovely. Friendly welcome. Stopped by after a short walk along the wall. Didn’t try the food (which looked excellent). The beer and open wood fire, though, were so worth the detour,

Popped in here for a quick pint after a good walk on the Wall midweek, late afternoon in Feb. Good friendly service, nice real ale, lovely cosy pub, well furnished and 2 brilliant real fires which were most welcome after a cold walk with a bit of rain at the end. Have been here before and will definitely return

During a dreary February Wednesday lunchtime, this secluded pub was bustling with customers. It was well-deserved, as the establishment offered a warm open fire, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, no loud music, a variety of real ales, and delicious food. It was a pleasant surprise to find a pub that was thriving and proudly family-owned.

We had booked a Sunday Lunch for 12:00. The staff graciously allowed us to enter early and seated us by the fire. The full beef lunch costs £17.95 but is well worth the price as it is substantial. We can truly say it is one of the best meals we have ever had. Many thanks to the staff for their efficient service and for taking care of us. We highly recommend this restaurant.

I highly recommend this charming pub restaurant. We stayed up the hill and decided to come down with our young child for a meal. We called ahead to reserve a table and asked about a high chair for our one-year-old. The staff were very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere was cozy with a fire burning, and there was plenty of space for our toddler. The food was incredibly tasty, much better than it looked in the photos. Our child even ate a whole portion of the soup, so it was definitely toddler-approved!
