"Well, this is no pie and mash place, as I have eaten at in London; and in Oldham when we had pie and mash as supper playing darts, provided by the landlady of the Shepherd 's Boy in Oldham [Lancashire] in 1969. So, we were in at lunchtime, and the offer was £9.95 for a pie and a pint. The beer was great but we did not eat, my Down son and I. It is a cold warehouse, in sense that the ceilings are very high and being down a side alley is not sunlit! Same in the Summer? In the evening I had the three cheese and potato pie; well I presume there were three cheeses, but goat 's cheese seemed to dominate. The few pieces of potato were undercooked, that id HARD! Response from unsmiling waitress when I told her: I 'll tell 'em. No offer of refund. My son who had pie and mash, though we had not ordered mash, but roast spuds, as chip are verboten! He enjoyed his bacon and chicken etc pie. The roast spuds were cold. Only one member of staff that we actually interlocuted with, was friendly. The others did not speak or were reticent, If you go wear plenty of insulating garments!!!!!"

The Guinness at this restaurant is delicious, and I was serenaded with a rendition of Natasha Bedingfield by the only female staff member. It was absolutely wonderful.

I discovered this incredible gem hidden away in the Northern Quarter. I ordered the classic steak and ale pie, and it was absolutely delicious. The rich gravy was incredible, and the variety of craft beers and ales available to pair with your pie was a delightful touch!

We really enjoyed our pie and a pint lunch with lovely quirky side orders and mash toppers. The service was very welcoming and friendly. The food was really good and the bill for 3 of us came to under £50 which was excellent considering we were all stuffed full of food by the time we left!

Family outing we had seen this place on line so decided to give it a try was not disappointed. We had the light bites to graze on, pigs in blankets, nachos, chicken wings cheesey roast potatoes all went down well. We then had a pie each, wild boar, 3 cheese, minted lamb , chicken chorizo all excellent with gorgeous gravy, we left nothing! We will definitely be returning.

Visited on Sunday evening before catching a flight from Manchester airport. Bad experience overall, food was awful and looked nothing like it was described. Nachos came without both sour cream guacamole, and was smothered in a disgusting liquid cheese, nothing like the pictures on website!! Sunday roast pie was served without Yorkshire pudding and seasonal veg plus the pie casing was black, burnt beyond recognition…..beware reviews on their site, they only publish the good ones

We wanted something to eat not far from the AO arena and as pie lovers thought this fitted the bill. I booked online so we had a table but there were plenty available had we just walked in. The staff were friendly and the steak ale pie we had didn't disappoint. They have happy hour on select drinks 4-7 Mon to Fri and we were told show all the main sporting events which is a crowd pleaser. It was quiet when we visited, probably due to it's location, tucked away in a quiet back street, if you are in the vicinity it's worth a visit

Ate there on a Saturday night, 5 friends. Tables and benches sticky and serious problem with fruit flies in December as well ! The pies were good though our order was messed up and one of my friends did t receive his order until we asked for it. Barman brought his order and literally threw it at him , no apology or anything , even though he had made zero fuss and politely chased up his order . The food was good but place needs a really deep clean and retraining for at least one of the bar staff ! Beardy long hair man, you know who you are !!

We were warmly greeted when we mentioned we had made a reservation online. The service was extremely efficient and quick, perfect for our tight schedule before heading to a show. We were impressed by how fast we received the bill, a practice that other restaurants could learn from. The prices for the food were reasonable, but the steak and ale pie could use some improvement. While the homemade version was tasty, we recommend taking inspiration from Greenhalgh's bakers in Japan for a better recipe. On the plus side, the mashed potatoes, gravy, and Yorkshire pudding were all excellent, making it a satisfying meal overall.

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."

"First of all let me say a positive, the only positive- Taylor our server was Brilliant, so polite friendly and excellent at his job ABSOLUTE RIP OFF, they only care about your money this place the food is so vile I couldn't eat much, meat was terrible. I'm a person who like to order at the bar, So I went upto the bar and tried to order to none alcoholic cocktails approx 11.80 on menu, I was told server will bring it over looked at Bill when he did, 13.00 I told him take that service charge off , absolutely disgusting they don't want you to order at bar so they squeeze a few extra pound out of you everytime you order a drink it's not the it's the principle) After meals in next room ,another service charge added on bill of 17, it's a disgrace and leaves a bad taste in my mouth , as if the place isn't expensive enough.. I would of definitely left a 20 tip for Taylor anyway as he was excellent but to be forced to do it in a restaurant that is already ripping you off in a cost of living crisis just shows you what this restaurant is all about. It'd 52 each anyway and you can't eat that much meat as it'd really poor quality and cooked poorly so please don't make the same mistake we made and choose this restaurant to eat. I so nearly walked out after the incident at bar when they tried to add on a service charge by made me think they were being polite and bringing our drinks to us, I really wish I had as I've had better tasting food at McDonald's in Moss Side"
