"The chowder is great, although today we only got 1 slice of wheaten instead of the usual two not a big deal but thought it was worth mentioning. Service was a bit slow today and the place wasn't all that busy so not sure what happened there but the staff are very friendly. My main was the haddock, which I wasn't a massive fan off, the batter tasted a bit overdone which could be due to the oil it was cooked in. It was good, but just not for me. The chips I got were also not amazing and felt like they were perhaps sitting under a heat lamp for longer than needed (again could be down to the slow service). Dessert was the chocolate brownie, and this was very good. Service is usually on point, so tonight was obviously just a one off. Overall very good, and will be back."

Here for my daughters birthday. 5 of us and old dog in his buggy. We sat in the bar which was homely with a lovely open fire. Staff were friendly and polite. Food was great, plenty of it. Definity will go back. Recommend it. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5

Had a lovely lunch with my partner, was lovely and warm. Loved that locals could come in and have a pint with their dog!! Staff told us all about the filming of Hope Street, they are almost a part of the cast, they so enthusiastic, lol. Service: 5 Location: 4

Popped in with family, had seafood chowder, excellent. Fresh, tasty and lots of fish. Seen loads of plates coming out and all looked amazing. Small confusion re drinks and had to get them ourselves, not a big hassle, the outside looks a little run down, but inside is really nice, highly recommend if your in the area and trying to decide where to eat, look no further!

my wife and I were happy enough to eat here twice during our short stay with great friends in donaghadee. both paintings were for the wonderful eating, beautiful old world ambiente and really welcome and hospitality very unforgettable. Maybe it helps if their friends appear to be a familiar one in their local but each member of the staff went out of the way to take care of us and feel at home. Among the recommended dressings are the chilli salt and pepper squid, chicken stack, bang chicken, seafood chowder, rump steak, burger menu and chicken, chorizo pasta bake.

"Tl;dr this chef and this team are on their way to a Michelin star, so get a reservation while you can. We visited here Saturday 29, where we enjoyed the tasting menu by current chef John Hollywood. Their tasting menu is averagely priced, comparable to Dublin’s Bastible, with 6 courses actual, and plenty of wine. Aside from the setup, nothing else is average. The staff at Boat House are second to none. The atmosphere is similar to Hof van Cleve, with chirpy, witty staff happily serving customers and following the mood of the table. Their sommelier and wine pairing is particularly special, with each bottle subverting the trend, unexpected, but without compromising on quality (see: Bastible cannot figure out wine). Their sommelier is a wine nerd who’s happy to go into as much depth as you want, but you feed off the passion between courses, which is a really great dynamic between the staff and the table this is rare, usually only achieved at top star restaurants. I’ve never found this in the island of Ireland. The food itself is the perfect mix of foraged from land and sea, each dish testing and surprising you, but with some classics mixed in (beef Barolo your reward for trusting the chef). On the whole, the menu seems designed to subvert comfort you in equal measure, and succeeds with every course. You won’t find the same level of experimentation from many of the Italian tasting menus on the circuit, but that comes with the assurances of consistent quality and a journey that’ll never let you down, where subversive wine pairings inject a level of exciting chaos without risking the food. Between the atmosphere, staff, and chemistry at the table in the kitchen, a trip to Boat House can be held in the same regard as some of the world’s top Michelin star restaurants. They’re on the way. They have the ingredients, whether you know it or not. Better start those birthday reservations now."
