"The food at this restaurant was excellent and compliments to the chef are in order. However, the service was extremely disappointing during our pre-booked champagne afternoon tea for my nan's birthday. Despite waiting for a long time, the champagne and pots of tea were forgotten and we had to remind the staff. Even after the food arrived, we had to wait ten minutes for cutlery. The lack of organization and communication was unacceptable for the price we paid for this 'experience'. We will not be returning and would not recommend this establishment. To make matters worse, when we asked for the bill, we had to track down a staff member who was found standing in the kitchen on her phone. This behavior is unacceptable, especially when dealing with paying customers. Overall, the service was awful."

This restaurant is one of our favorites! We frequently stop by for coffee, cake, or lunch and always receive a friendly welcome and good service. The food is delicious and they have a beautiful old building. They are also able to accommodate all of our dietary restrictions easily.

If you want the most delicious home cooked food, pleasant, cheerful service appreciate seriously characterful properties with original, unspoilt interiors, Smallwood Lodge is the place to go. My only regret.. I didn't take photos of our gorgeous meals so beautifully presented. Can't recommend enough!

Stopped in on our way back from holiday, excellent service and the food and drink was top notch. I had the soup and cheese on toast, my wife had the cream tea and my son had the lemon drizzle cake, which he said was the best ever ... high praise indeed! Nice surroundings and very reasonable pricing too, we 'll definitely pay a visit again when we 're passing through Newport.

Have used this place on a number of occasions for breakfast and afternoon tea. Food is very good however today when we went for breakfast with family the service was hopeless. Waited nearly an hour for breakfast to come, toast didn’t arrive until we had eaten everything else. Such a shame, puts you off going again, good job there’s plenty of places for breakfast on the high street.

Lovely staff, very friendly, they fitted us in, even though they were busy and most tables were reserved. We ordered 2 full english breakfasts and 2 teas, one of which was de-caf, the teas came quickly and were served in lovely individual tea pots. The English Breakfast was delicious and cooked well. Priced well and friendly staff, will definitely visit again. Thank you Smallwood. P.s. may not be suitable for some as the toilets are upstairs

We have been using this restaurant for coffee and light meals and based on our previous experiences, we decided to book the Christmas Lunch. Unfortunately, it was a disaster. The room was freezing cold, I had to keep my coat on, the service was inconsistent and slow. The meal seemed like it had been reheated and was average at best. Overall, it was a very amateurish experience and extremely disappointing. We have just returned home to recover and warm up.

We arrived at Smallwood Lodge unannounced having not booked a table. The staff there couldn 't have been more helpful and accommodating. Lunch was amazing. If you go there, your tea will be made fresh and served the old way with tea leaves for you to strain so much tastier. Everything happens in good time and is super fresh so don 't expect 'fast food '. We will definitely return there. If I had to made a suggestion for Smallwood Lodge, it would be to make the entrance more prominent and advertise to people what gem lies within. The little menu box there is easily missed.

I can't recommend Smallwood Lodge highly enough! I love coming in with my little dog, often with a friend but today I came in on my own to have a coffee and something to eat. I am a diabetic so I eat omelettes all the time but today I had THE BEST omelette I have ever had anywhere! It was so light and fluffy and so tasty! Accompanied with a cappuccino that was perfectly prepared, exactly how I had asked for it (over 1 inch of foam with no chocolate sprinkles).... Huge well done to this amazing cafe! If you are in Newport shropshire, do come and try, you won't be disappointed! Leda Tustin

"we wanted to visit the midlands and family for the first time since Christmas and in the frame of the visit I decided that we would take my mother for a nice Sunday dinner. she lives in telford and I am not familiar with the contrary so that I am on tripadvisor for ideas. I mean, I was looking for restaurants in Telford and sorted by rating; clays of broseley was the best from the list and that was what I booked. it is about a minute drive from my mother place through a beautiful shropshire landscape. we arrived in broseley a little early and found a parking space right in front of the restaurant. we were invited to take place on the terrace while they opened and had some drinks. I had a fantastic homemade limonade with glittering water, my mother had a Rhabarb juice that was so delicious that we were strolling home with us and my wife had a very nice pot tee. we had booked a table that had been placed in the restaurant for us, but we were offered the table on the terrace for lunch, which we liked to accept as the weather was perfect. we all ordered from the midday card, which for two courses and for three courses was a fantastic bargain. I ordered salmon and hake meatcakes with delicate brokolli, spargas and a white wine sauce and my wife and mother both ordered the beef Sirloin roast dinner. I was so impressed with eating. honestly, this restaurant lives up to all reviews. the ingredients were fresh and tasty and not refined as they get some places. to dessert my mother and I both had the rhubarb and custard' and playful plate that rhubarb compott, gelee, vanilla cream and small mygues combined crazy. the perfect end for every afternoon. during the meal were the employees (I'm sorry to say that I didn't get their names) attentive and friendly. our month old sohn, henry, has a stinking cold and has teethed, so was not on his best behavior, but the staff was fantastic with him. They even went so far that they broke out one of their dogs, a beautiful, huge dog called barney, for henry's entertainment. to cover everything, and this is great for parents of small children, they had a full baby change unit, complete with diapers, wipes and unhappy bags! I can honestly say I've never seen this before. all in all, for three nets, two desserts and drinks, the bill came less than unnecessary to say, I intend to visit again when we are close. I really can't wait."
