"If you find yourself in the area, you absolutely have to dine at Spencers. The portion sizes are unbelievably large - we made the mistake of ordering sides with our tray dinners (plates could never contain it all) and ended up not being able to finish them. We were so impressed by the sizes that we didn't even think to take photos, we just dug in knowing it would be a long meal. We ordered the salt and pepper tray, the American combo, ribs from the grill section, garlic mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce with bread rolls and salad, garlic bread, and onion rings. They have a wide selection of drinks available and were even kind enough to let my friend taste a cider before she ordered it, as she was unsure if she would like it. The only downside was finding out they were closed on Mondays (and Tuesdays) after walking over from our holiday rental. If I ever come back to the area, I would definitely make a point to visit again."

Had Sunday lunch for the first time! The beef was tough the carrot and parsnip were undercooked and the roast potatoes were rock hard around the edges. It was a shame because the rest of the veg, Yorkshire pud and gravy were delicious. Won't be back!!!!!

Went for a family birthday. On a Sunday evening. We mainly had pizzas, and burgers, all were excellent, good size portions. You order and pay at the bar and food is brought to your table. 8 pounds for a basic burger, comes with chips salad and a nice coleslaw. Good value.

This was our first time at this restaurant and it was very busy. We asked if they had a table for two, not expecting one since the staff seemed overwhelmed, but they managed to accommodate us. The food was fantastic; my husband ordered a burger with chilli sauce, but they forgot the chilli. He politely informed a staff member, who quickly rectified the mistake and apologized. He really enjoyed his meal and said it was one of the best burgers he's had. I had the mixed grill, which was huge and I couldn't finish it all. The atmosphere was lively, the staff were lovely, and the restaurant was very welcoming. We will definitely be returning in two weeks when we are back in Pickering.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
