"This is our go to restaurant in the area. The welcome is always friendly and the staff are attentive and go out of their way to look after you, even making bespoke dishes specific to your taste. Yet again the food was excellent. Succulent, tasty lamb, yummy chicken, excellent fresh naan and the best pakora sauce I’ve had. I would say I cleared my plate but I couldn’t finish what I ordered so I have a wee ”doggie bag” in the fridge right now that I will enjoy for my lunch tomorrow. It’s well worth ordering extra sides and taking home what you don’t eat at the table. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals tonight and will be back again soon."

Excellent food, with a good choice on the menu, with Indian and Thai cuisine. Staff were lovely and welcoming and a bonus is BYOB

The food was top quality. If informal dining is all you need I would highly recommend this little restaurant. Just remember to BYOB. View menu

The meal was truly outstanding, and the service was both brilliant and friendly. It was a perfect evening with the added bonus of being able to bring our own wine without any corkage charge.

Delicious food and great service. We went for a takeaway and the service was excellent. One of our party is vegan and they understood well, and were honest about what they knew was vegan and what they couldn’t guarantee (some foods are bought in). The food was delicious, more than meeting expectations.

I can’t remember now how many times we have eaten here and we have never been disappointed. With 5 of us who have varying tastes in our food there were lots of different dishes and all of them were superb. I no longer live in penicuik so miss having this wonderful restaurant on my doorstep but I try and visit every chance I get. View menu

From tasty crisp popadoms, tender lamb kebab and crunchy coated succulent pakora starters to five different main dishes, with mushroom rice and three types of naan and two side dishes, everything was absolutely faultless. This restaurant really is the best Indian restaurant we have ever eaten in the UK. It is well worth the 66 mile drive we do to visit it. Thanks Hazad. See you and your lovely brother again soon.

As a ceoliac I often struggle to find takeaways that I can depend on not to make me I'll. Spice House is completely clued up on every aspect of the preparation of the food and assured me by explain ing the dishes I could and couldn't have due to cooking methods. We regularly order from here as the Chicken Tikka Bhuna is AMAZING. My wife is so fussy but raves about the Korma here with a Peshwari Naan Bread. We have gotten the meal deal here a few times to as the value for money is incredible. If you live in the area, trust me, pay this place a visit or get a delivery as you won't be disappointed.

"Having successfully completed a major project I took my team out as a small thank you. There were 5 of us and we arrived around 1030h for breakfast. We were greeted by the very .lovely Amy, who promptly seated us. She was polite, friendly and attentive. She took our drinks orders, then our breakfasts. We all opetd for the full Scottish at under a tenner each. The meal was fabulous, well cooked, piping hot and presented on high quality flatware with good cutlery. The sausages had a delicious crisp outer, the bacon was well done but not hard, the mushrooms were served in a wee bowl with chilli oil. The eggs were perfect, accompanied by a slice of chunky bread, haggis and black pudding. Beans finished it off brilliantly. The teapot was quirky and delightful. Alison, the owner was not only beautiful but very charming with it. She was involved in the serving of our meals and chatted to us as she served us, making us feel more than welcome. Five breakfasts with assorted lattes, cappuccinos and teas was under £70 so very reasonably priced too. I left a well deserved tip and Alison kindly let me know that the full tip always went to the serving staff, so very ethical too. My colleagues were all as suitably impressed as I was. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and the only shame is that my time in Bonnyrigg is over, and I dearly wished I'd found The Beetroot sooner."
