"It’s been a long time since we have paid a visit here, so we thought it was time to do a review. Starters. Prawn Cocktail The prawns were well presented in a glass with crisp lettuce and side serving of bread. They were fresh, tasted great and a generous serving. Homemade fish cakes The homemade fish cakes were presented well with fresh salad. They tasted great, we’re light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside and worked well with the salad. They also came as a generous portion for a starter. Mains. Jumbo cod and chips The fish was HUGE this is definitely a portion for two. Although the fish tasted fresh, not too greasy and was nicely battered. Scampi Biggest portion of scampi I’ve seen. Freshly cooked, nice and crisp and tasted nice. The restaurant has a lovely modern interior which is crisp and simple. The staff are polite and friendly and are willing to help in any way they can. Overall the food was good, the staff are excellent the restaurant is clean and tidy. However our main criticism is the portions of food. We were looking forward to a desert however there was simply not enough room left. We would be happy paying the same for less food because it’s great value for money."

Stuarts of Driffield were at Shrewsbury Folk Festival (Aug 2024). Top quality fish (lightly battered) and chips, freshly cooked. Very tasty, as were the peas and gravy. Great value for money, moreso given this was a festival. Am hoping they return in 2025!

Late night chippy run while attending a large event in the town. The takeaway was incredibly busy but the staff were very efficient and we didn't wait long. Huge portions of chips, served piping hot and just as chip shop chips should be. The accompanying battered sausages were great value at just £1 each. And scraps!!!!! Can't recommend highly enough.

"Visited today with my wife and month old daughter whilst we are on holiday in the area. We didn’t have a booking but this wasn’t a problem, the staff were friendly throughout and accommodating about lack of booking. We asked for a children’s menu...(website says they have one) but we were advised it’s was the basket meals menu which they advertise as selling to guests sat outside, they did also mention they could make a smaller portion of something from the adult menu. The basket meals menu is mainly fried food and chips, the kind you might share with friends over drinks, I wouldn’t call it a children’s menu. To me a children’s meal should at least come with some option of veg/salad/beans and ideally not be fried, plus the chips that arrived with her chicken bites were salted, not great for little ones. We didn’t make a fuss as for one meal as a treat we weren’t unduly worried but it would put me off going back with children. They also charged the full basket meal price so no reduction for children. Our meals, fried garlic mushrooms, salt and pepper chicken goujons to start then a beef burger and chicken burger as mains, arrived promptly and were generous portions. The food was fine, nothing spectacular just average pub food. The main issue on our visit and the thing that made the whole meal much more stressful and unenjoyable was the flies, we were sat in what they called the restaurant area and our whole meal start to finish was disrupted by or flies continuously buzzing round us, trying to land on our food and land on us, not fun. I accept that or flies can be around when doors or windows are open and it’s hard to stop them coming when food is around but or round us and more to be seen in the room seems too many to me, it really put us off especially when they were landing on our daughter. At the point of eating the meal we didn’t raise the issue as we couldn’t see that anything could be done about it and I’m sure the staff are not a fan of the flies either. I did raise the issue whilst paying and was told they knew about the problem and were doing their best to solve it, sadly for us it would stop me wanting to go again. All in all not a great experience and the food whilst nice enough wasn’t good enough to overcome the issue of the flies and the lack of a proper children’s menu."
