"My husband and I have eaten at Buccelli's many times and so he decided there was no better place in Lancaster to hold a surprise 60th birthday celebration for me with family and my closest friends. I later found out that Bruno the owner, had been very accommodating in organising a menu with my husband, with a choice of great options, that were pre-ordered. The food, wine and service on the evening were fantastic and helped to create an atmosphere that reminded us of times we have spent in Rome, where a meal is an integral part of a celebration. I was delighted with my surprise celebration especially when I realised where I was going and our guests, several of whom had not visited Buccelli's before, were very impressed with the quality of the food and the range of specialist wines available. I want to say a very personal thank you to Bruno for all his help in the secret planning of the evening and to his amazing team of Ben, Bonnie, Jake and Theo for making it a night to remember! For all of you who have never been to Buccelli's, you don't know what you are missing. It's a little piece of Rome in the centre of Lancaster. Whether you go in for lunch, dinner or just a coffee and cannoli, you won't be disappointed!"

"The restaurant boasts an idyllic waterfront location, but unfortunately, I had the worst mushroom stroganoff of my life. In fact, I’m not even sure what I was served; it was definitely far from authentic. I couldn't find any mushrooms in the dish, and I wondered if I had mistakenly ordered something else. However, the bartender was very pleasant and took it back to the kitchen. Unfortunately, the replacement wasn't much better either. I've included a photo for reference. If this is your interpretation of a stroganoff, I think it should be clearly indicated on the menu. What a shame!"

"I visited here with a friend on a Wednesday morning for brunch, when we got there it was very quiet but it gradually got busier. It's slightly hidden away, but well worth finding and trying if you are coming to Lancaster, especially if you are vegan. However, you would still enjoy it even if you are not vegan as the menu is varied. I had the avocado on toast which was just amazing, for something so simple it was absolutely lovely, with loads of avocado. My friend had the full English which she enjoyed. We then both had some cake afterwards, there were lots of unique choices. There is a huge range of coffee, tea and juice available. The prices are very reasonable. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere/decor is really nice, too. Definitely get here if you can."

"My 2nd stay at the Toll House. Both times I have had 5 star experiences. The staff are very friendly, polite and professional. The food is amazing and I can recommend the beef taco starter, the sea bass, and fillet steak main courses. They have 4 great ales on from Thwaites brewery that are kept to perfection. The bar also has draft beers and the usual fridge stocked bottled ciders, tonics and juices. There is also a good selection of spirits. The air conditioned rooms are large and very clean with good amenities and en-suite bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable. The hotel is located at the top of the hill and is only a short walk to the many shops and pubs in the town. The castle is only a 5 minute walk away."
