"Having been told this was a great place to eat, I thought I would try it out with a friend for a lunch wish I hadn't, now. I ordered the Battered Cod. It didn't look good on presentation, it a very thin piece of...cod with the skin still on. It was soggy with Greece/oil that's what it tasted of. It was totally flat on the surface nothing crispy about it. On cutting it open I could see uncooked batter. It looked like the fish was was dipped in the batter put in cold oil stayed flat. It didn't have the texture or taste of cod. Having eaten battered cod at other local gastro pubs recently thoroughly enjoyed it, my experience at the Bakers Arms was far from satisfactory. When I raised the problem with the server, she wasn't apologetic told me how others had ordered the same dish that day. It was not helpful to me I was discussing the Cod on my plate not others. My friend had an Omelette which didn't look at all appetising. I would not go back because they were not customer focused they did not listen. It was a waste of time money not having eaten I went home cooked."

The restaurant has a vibrant atmosphere and even though it was bustling, the dining experience was still enjoyable. The food and service were top-notch, especially given the large number of patrons.

Food was amazing but not cheap . Plates were left around on tables and service was a little slow.Thought tipping was discretionary didn't like being asked if I wanted to leave one by the staff.......if I wanted to I would have said. Let the pub...down .

Had lunch today with my wife and daughter. We’ve eaten here a number of times before and the food has always been excellent, with today no exception. The seafood dishes we had were superb, service is first-class and there’s a really nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Visited for Sunday roast. Had the beef roast. Slightly salty for my taste. The beef was cooked through (I like mine with some pink) but it was tender. Veggies were fresh. Average roast for Probably wouldn't visit again unless taking my Mum who likes...salt and brown beef.

Had lunch here today. We both had ham egg and chips. The ham as so tough, it was impossible to cut it let alone eat it. When we told the waitress her response was Are you sure we sell a lot of these She then...said she would tell the chef, She did not even have the courtesy to come back to us. We were not after a refund, or discount, but a sorry would have gone a long way. Will never use this pub again

Popped in for Lunch with wife on a lovely hot summer afternoon I decided to have a Ploughman’s lunch for a change which was priced at just under although the was nothing wrong with the meal I felt a bit cheated as all it...consisted of was pieces of cheddar small rolls some salad bit of pickle and coleslaw for the price I would have like a little more food or a lower price of say around but service was good and Cider was nice so if we are passing I will pop in but try something else from the menu.

Starters were very average. Whitebait was deep fried and dark brown not light and crispy as it should be. Warm bread rolls were basic and cheap. The pie was a glorified salty gravy soup with a pastry lid floating by with some pity vegetables along...side. Battered cod chips was the worst I have ever had. The batter was like sponge dripping with oil, so salty and greasy. Basic chips. Sad peas to accompany. The fizzy drinks were watered down. Really really poor. Would not recommend at all. The staff had 0 interest and the decor was drab and looked like it needed a good clean.

We did not know the pubs in this area but decided to take a chance on this place as it looked nice and had a garden area for eating. Really pleased we did food was excellent, well cooked and well presented. My wife and...I had the mixed seafood grill which was delicious and our daughter had the omelette which she said was perfect. The staff were friendly, helpful and watching the way they interacted with customers, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.. The menu is extensive enough to please most palates and is not over expensive. We do not live nearby otherwise we would definitely frequent this pub regularly but will certainly return when we are next in the area.

The Bakers Arms is a traditional pub located in the village of Stock, nestled between Chelmsford and Billericay. It can be a bit tricky to find, so keep an eye out for the sign near the Village Hall. The pub provides plenty of parking, a nice perk compared to other nearby options. However, it does tend to get busy quickly, especially on Sunday afternoons. The interior and exterior of the pub have a classic charm, with a delightful garden adjacent to the parking area. I've had some enjoyable meals there, as the staff is friendly and attentive. While not a gourmet establishment, the pub offers tasty home-cooked dishes (including snacks and dinners) at a reasonable price. The Bakers Arms is a p...

"I was appalled at the quality of service from the moment I arrived to the moment I left, which was about When I arrived I was not asked if I would like a drink, and I wasn't asked throughout the whole meal. The waitress should have seen on the table that we only had tap water, and asked whether we'd like another drink. Then, we ordered our first round of hot food. I pressed the help button and after waiting for a good minutes for the waitress finally arrived. I felt it was too long. At this point in the evening there were three full tables in the whole restaurant so I thought the amount of time we had to wait was poor. Then the food started coming over, but the food didn't come altogether. A couple of dishes came and then a few more and a few more after that. This meant we didn't all eat together, we ate all at different times. I had ordered two dishes to eat at the same time and they didn't arrive at the same time. Very disappointing. The third order of hot food was beyond a joke. It was clear that one of the two waitress wasn't feeling very well (I overheard one of the chef's telling her to go home). She was our waitress. So, we ordered the third round of hot food. minutes later we still didn't have our food. In this time the chef was talking to the ill waitress. I then pressed the help button and I explained that we'd ordered some food and had been waiting a rather long time. I then look round at the waitress and chef and it was absolutely clear that the order didn't go through so it was only then that the food was starting to be cooked. The waitress who took the order explained that there's been lots of issues and she was sorry. As a customer paying for a meal, I don't care about the issues, I still expected good service and my food to turn up. Overall I thought the service was absolutely terrible. I will not be visiting this restaurant again and I will not be recommending the restaurant to anyone."
