"I visited this cafe today. Ordered a latte and cake. The coffee tasted like cheap instant or something that had sat in a jug for too long. I was prepared to let that pass. I took a fork full of the Victoria sandwich cake I ordered. It was clearly dry bordering on stale. A person, I presume may have been the owner walked past my table, so I discretely mentioned that the cake was dry. Whereupon, with a glare and without a word she grabbed it off my table and slung it towards the waitress, who looked acutely embarrassed. And with her back to me marched into the kitchen. The waitress came up to my table not knowing quite what to do or say, and said that I didn't have to pay for the cake. I decided to leave, and leave the coffee too. I asked her to let her manager know how rudely I had been treated. She was very sympathetic and said she wasn't going to charge me for the coffee either. We live locally and we will never use this cafe again, and will ensure that I pass on my disgust to everyone I know. I cannot think of any time that I have been subjected to worse customer care. I suggest if you want to experience a rude, ignorant manner and poor food, you try this place."

Went for lunch and we were disappointed with our sandwiches. Quite overpriced for what you get quality wise.

We had lunch here before our walk to Hardraw Force. Louise had a Wensleydale Cheese Sandwich. The cheese is made at the creamery in Gayle the adjacent village.

I’m not in the habit of posting bad reviews on here as I think everyone deserves a chance, however I feel our treatment at this establishment yesterday deserves a mention.

This restaurant is the perfect spot for chilly weather. The soup is absolutely delicious and velvety smooth. They offer a great set deal that includes soup and a toasted sandwich.

only called in for coffees. the service was good and the staff were very polite and pleasant. the sort of place where one will feel quite confident to order a meal knowing that it be well prepared

We were a party of 8 enjoying a New Year break near Hawes and visited the café for lunch. It is very small but offers a wide range of delicious home made soups and sandwiches that were just perfect for a light snack.

A small compact cafe whose staff can be a bit brusque. On the other hand the soups were sensational and the homemade lemon scones with cream and homemade lemon curd rates as one of the nicest things I've ever put in my mouth.

We’ve visited this establishment before enjoyed our most recent visit too. Looking for a light snack as the pubs in Hawes generally don’t serve food between 2:30/3 5:30/6 we sat outside with our pooch. We ordered a hot beef, onion gravy sandwich a croc monsieur both came with crisps which were delicious. The sandwiches were great too, reasonable prices good service. The ham in my sandwich was really tasty. Another good experience thank you.

We visited here as we were visiting Hawed on the way home from the lake District,It was well worth not having any breakfast,We visited here before, because the food is very nice and reasonably priced too,My husband ordered a breakfast and omg it had everything on it,Everything was all freshly cooked and really great products,I had an open prawn cocktail sandwich,Everything was home made,Even the seafood sauce was just perfection,It was 2pieces of bread laid on a plate, with prawn cocktail on one side and salad on the other,Even the salad was different,It had grapes, peppers, sweet tomatoes etcetc,I'm fussy about a cup of tea,but even that was nice,Proper Yorkshire teabags,For all of that it was...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
