"Headed here for a Sunday roast based on reviews we’d read when planning our trip. While the beef and gravy were absolutely delicious the roast parsnip carrots were different sizes so, some were perfectly cooked while others were just a little too hard. Duck...fat roasted potatoes weren’t great I expected super crispy hot roasties with a fluffy inside, we had lukewarm and quite hard to cut mediocre ones. Loved extra gravy served in a wee jug. We ordered cheese for pudding and they were delicious, crackers as well, but we really felt it would have been nice if they had told us what each one was before disappearing. The pub’s dog friendly, very relaxed and I loved the lit candles on each table but our roasts weren’t what we’d hoped for."

Flies inside, wasps outside. Beautiful Lamb Very dissapointing mussels, 15 small gritty mussels do not a main course make! Won't be back.

The food and service at this restaurant are top-notch. The staff is very friendly. The lamb and steak are excellent. I enjoyed my experience so much that I went there twice in one week.

Absolutely excellent meal for the 4 of us. Food was amazing, service was great! Dog friendly and brilliant for Gluten Free (even the sticky toffee pudding was GF). Would recommend and would definitely visit again.

The restaurant serves delicious food that is cooked and presented nicely at affordable prices. Both the appetizers and main dishes were tasty. It has a traditional and cozy atmosphere, with log fires and friendly staff. View menu

had a fantastic meal here and most dinge gluten-free, which was great for me. Husband son said that beer is there. nice friendly staff and beautiful old pub with open fire. compliments to the cook, the meal was simply amazing.

enjoy an evening meal at the kamin. a mixture of vegetarian and meat dishes were cooked to perfection and unstoppable presented. of what appeared as an inconceivable traditional pub, we were surprised by the upmarket menu and general experience. very tasty and would recommend to all.

Made to feel very unwelcome as we were 8mins late for booking. Tried to help by carrying drinks through from the bar and ordering immediately. Food was very good but told we had to eat our deserts outside as the pub was closing at 2.00....Left a tip but really didn’t feel relaxed and happy Wouldn’t go again View menu

on Sunday afternoon with two friends and a beautiful meal. it was a wet and miserable day outside and was so nice to see open fire. we had luck sitting close to us, who soon warmed us up. the dog has certainly been happy to lie at the fire place. friendly and relaxed service and we all had the Sunday roast beef, which was excellent followed by the cheese biscuits.

It had been many years since we had visited this part of the Lake District, but we were glad we made the trip to our cabin. We both ordered the haddock with chips and mushy peas, adding a delicious starter to share. It was truly the best meal I've ever had. For dessert, we both had sorbets and enjoyed a few drinks along with a refreshing aperitif. The total came to nearly £50. I highly recommend this restaurant and suggest making a reservation for dinner, as they have limited availability.

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
