"Stayed at the campsite last weekend with my wife and son. We booked via the Pitchup website, where my wife left an honest review of our stay. The Blue Ship then disputed the review as being a 'fictitious guest ' which was laughable when she included photos from that weekend which included dated signs specific to the couple of days we visited and the booking was obviously on Pitchup 's system since it was made through them. It feels like a very dishonest practice to have reviews removed just because you don 't like them or because they aren 't 100% positive. The points my Wife made aligned with those of other guests, and the venue also argued with those customers so it seems they just don 't like receiving negative feedback but aren 't willing to improve the faults that customers report. The campsite is slightly expensive compared with others we 've stayed at and the facilities weren 't as good here, there are much more expensive places to stay, of course, but for the price paid you can almost certainly do better elsewhere and after the way the staff have unfortunately acted towards us via Pitchup we definitely won 't be spending our money with them again!"

Proper cute little pub. It's a converted house. The living room is the bar, the dining room the restaurant. **** brilliant!! People were lovely, staff and other customers. And, of course, Velma the dog who was in with her owners. Lively space outside too.

Lovely pub with children's play slide in the garden the swings were broken though). Good selection of drinks and friendly staff, but service was very slow we waited 1hr 40 mins) and food was average for the price. £76 for 3 mains, a kids meal 2 fruit shoots) and 3 pints.

I camped and ate here, great little place. The camping field was spacious, flat, close to loads of public footpaths in woodland and meadow. Dogs are welcome ana there’s space to give them a decent tether. The pub food was well cooked and presented and my dog was even treated to her own little plate of biscuits. I’d love to come back with a group next time, awesome little place!

This is a lovely pub and campsite. The food at the pub was excellent, especially the fried battered brie, as well as the burgers and children's portions. Although the campsite was a bit muddy, the owner had warned us about it prior to our stay. We are thinking about returning, hopefully with better weather! We also visited the nearby Winkworth Arboretum and were thoroughly pleased! View menu

We stayed at the little campsite at the side of the pub. What a peaceful little gem of a site it is too. We ate at the pub the first night, and although there was a slight mix up with the order (possibly my fault) they bent over backwards to sort it out for us. The food was delicious and they made us very welcome. Busy for a little pub in what feels like the middle of nowhere even though its not really. Probably best to book to ensure as its not very big.

I visited this charming pub on a Saturday night and found the atmosphere quite pleasant. The staff were very friendly, and most of the food was excellent. However, the pies could use some improvement: the tops were burnt, and they were difficult to slice through, almost like using a chainsaw! Additionally, the bottoms were a bit messy, and the peas were undercooked. On a positive note, the burgers were impressive – they looked fantastic and tasted delicious!

One of the best pubs I've ever visited. Very welcoming. Beer kept perfectly. Lovely food. A genuinely kind hospitable owner who is very happy to chat with you, that adds to everything, which Is rare and makes you feel at home. Gorgeous old building. Camping next door in the field which is perfectly simple and reasonably priced. It's how all pubs should be, and takes you back in time. Will be returning as much as possible. This charming little pub has a cozy cottage vibe, complete with low beams and a beautiful fireplace. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the food is excellent. There's a lovely field behind the pub for camping, along with a nice garden and some pigs! A big shout-out to the helpful gentleman who towed our campervan out of the mud when it got stuck. Just a heads-up: be cautious if you’re visiting during very wet weekends with a campervan. Also, the pub has limited opening days, so make sure to check their website before you go.

Love this pub and campsite. We stayed this weekend, Sophie and Simon provided us with a lovely pitch in a beautiful setting. We were impressed with the facilities and attention to detail. We had our own bbq the first day and on Sunday we ate in the pub. It’s a lovely, truly authentic gem in the Sussex countryside, we are always made to feel so welcome and love the family atmosphere. The service and food were excellent, esp considering how busy they were. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, the food is the best of British, fresh, homemade and delicious. We would highly recommend..
