"we discovered the chequers shortly after taking over the current owners and it has since been our way to place. the one thing that really emphasizes is the resistance, whether it is a quiet Monday dinner or a busy Friday dinner, it is always excellent. eating is the first class with a seasonal menu with local ingredients, service is always excellent and the staff seems really happy to be there. it's really hard to get a favourite dish, as there's a big choice and we never had a court that doesn't impress. it is always immaculately clean and the courtyard is beautiful on a sunny day with comfortable chairs and a well maintained flower display. when their planning on going it is worth booking as its call grows, but they are always ready to find them a table when they specify."

Went to the Cheques today for my Birthday lunch. Had the traditional Roast Beef and it was lovely. Followed by the Warm carrot cake and sorbet which was sooooo yummy. There is so much choice on the menu so will definitely be going back. What makes it even better is I live five minutes away so can have a drink and walk home!! ..

Excellent. So often a favourite restaurant falls down on quality between Xmas New Year but The Chequers excelled themselves, not easy for a table of 23 but they did. The staff are so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. A well oiled machine. The Sea Bream was absolutely lovely and the braised beef rib was perfect for my Dad (88)

My partner and I went to a wine tasting. It was brilliance! My partner used to be French wines. We made the Spanish region this time and although I'm not a wine drinker, I loved it. We had 3 white, 3 red, and served a plate of cheese, hardened meat, olives etc. That was great to try different things with different wines. Philip was great. Explained everything about every wine and where it comes from. Throwed with a lot of humour. After that we all stayed and Philip went round about talking to everyone and we had to order bottles or cases of the wines we tried. All in all it was great and I will definitely go to the new world Australian Wine Tasting!! Bye. X

We went through today and after such great reviews, we thought we'd dive for lunch. The beautiful friendly blonde lady said they were completely booked for lunch (always a good sign! but said she would fit us, found us a table for me, friend, my daughter, she said the wait was a while, but not too long. The food came much faster than expected and was hot, fresh and tasty, all staff were very attentive and made sure we were happy. I had the gammon (more chips were below that you can not see on the photo, my friend daughter had pizzas that are freshly made by scratches, his only opinion was somewhat more seasonal/taste for the pizza sauce. We would definitely come back, beautiful pub with bars...
