"When we arrived the main bar/restaurant was full of smoke, we were seated in the conservatory away from most of the smoke, we were asked three times in quick succession if we were ready to order and I ordered one starter and was given two and i refused one of them but they gave it free of charge. When the main course arrived, I had pork and one of the elements to the dish was excessively salty. When we finished the main course I asked to speak to the manager and mentioned the points I have raised and also that it was a very rushed experience that we did not enjoy. We had two coffees that I was not charged for on the final bill but I was very surprised to see a service charge on the bill which I unfortunately paid almost out of embarrassment. I will not be returning."

I visited the Dog for the first time and was welcomed by friendly staff. It is decorated well, felt clean and has a nice fireplace with seating for a cosy feel. It is a nice english country village pub, with a modern twist and a theme. Although I didn't have food in the restaurant, it smelled amazing so I will definitely be returning at a later date. There is parking, but I would imagine it gets busy at peak times, but there are parking spaces on the road nearby if needed. From what I experienced, I would recommend it. View menu

Great stay, lovely room, comfortable bed, good shower, dinner was exceptional, great options on menu, extremely well cooked, full of flavour, joy to eat. Breakfast was very good. Service from everyone wonderful. Highly recommended. Rooms: The room we stayed in was clean, warm and large, bed very comfortable and the walk-in shower easy to use with lots of hot water. WiFi was very reliable. Food drinks: The dinner was exceptional, high standard of cooking, great choice on menu. Looking forward to a return visit to sample more. Good choice of wines. Breakfast was well cooked and again, wide choice on menu.

Last night had a really great evening at The Dog. There is a warm and cosy atmosphere, armchairs in the bar, then the restaurant is spacious with tables giving everyone space. The cocktails are good, margarita and bergamot bourbon sour, they had rhubarb gin too. Starters pidgeon great, scallops and pork belly was delicious. Mains Brioche crumbed loin of pork, the Guinness braised cheek in a little pan topped with mash which was a highlight, Roasted haunch of venison was enjoyed plus the Lobster raviolo was amazing. Desserts Burnt Basque cheesecake was good but the Dark chocolate tart, marshmellow and the Pumpkin spiced souffle were the stars, a dream. Nice Aussie Shiraz. The staff are amazin...

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
