"we have booked the restaurant for a birthday meal. we arrived with a 90-year-old flyer lady and introduced a wheelchair to bring my nuts into the taxi. at the arrival was a woman who did not visit the hotel, broke out and sat in the NUR wheelchair that belongs to the hotel! (5 star? the doorman was extremely abrupt with my wife when she advised that we were looking for a pre-booked wheelchair. as a result our taxi meter went up and my older mother was disturbed. the service manager gave 10 pounds in the direction of our taxi fees, but in view of the stress caused, I would have thought that a full refund would have been more contemplative. during the booking of the restaurant we asked to sit with a beautiful view. we sat at the table and saw a corridor down. not only that, the hotel is so badly designed that we had to take my mother through a labyrinth of lifts, including a personal only lift to reach our goal not very 5 stars when your disabled? the culinary experience was just as bad. it was very slow, small in portions and eat and drink overpriced for what they receive. I had fish and the next day I had severe illness and diahorrea. I should have reported it to the health inspectors, but I was too weak and could not be disturbed. I'll never be dining again! on the plus side the reception staff were very attentive, but the waiting staff needed to retrain and possibly better speak English. I am sure that the administration will either ignore this review or post its standard response, I am sorry that you visit was not happy, etc. etc. why not act on the kritiken instead of on standard responses. it can show that as a company they activities care! you are not evil star!"

Main courses were over cooked. Service was very good but sadly the chef did not pay as much attention to his/her customers as the waitresses. Getting to the restaurant took a meandering 5 minutes from getting in the lift in the hotel foyer. The view...from the roof garden is lovely but sadly not the food.

my mother saw this restaurant on a list of the best afternoon tea in edinburgh, so we booked a table. I wish we hadn't. the sandwiches were clear in a refrigerator and were very cold, and the fillings tasted unseasonal. the brot was sponge and bland....The apron came without camouflaged cream and some of the foods on the stands simply do not match the description on the menu, or simply cannot be found. the real tee was nice to drink. although the view of the restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere is sterile and unpleasant, a bit like in an airport. we will not come back.

The gluten free sandwiches were dry and poor fillings, one had slice of processed cheese and spam. On complaining, I was offered a salad, which finally arrived and comprised huge mound of rocket, basil and half cherry tomatoes and a few balls of cheese. All...for £25, so after further complaint I got fruit salad. For this price I had half a dry sandwich, a piece of chocolate and a stale salad, plus some fruit. I was not alone and the rest had a normal afternoon type tea, no one could eat scones as stale, the side salads were dry, clearly old, and most didn't even try their sandwiches. For 5 star, this was appalling. The manager was informed but never deigned to come to.our table. Felt sorry... View menu

Today a group of 40 members of a local society including myself went to the Glasshouse for a picnic meal on the lovely rooftop terrace though due to the weather it had to be eaten inside This would have still been enjoyable except...for the standatd of the food provided and the lack of service We had a small salad which had turned brown and swimming in liquid,a soggy baguette filled with processed ham and cheese ,a quiche hard and dry ,a small wet croissant filled with egg mayonnaise and then a scone so hard and heavy our teeth were at risk This is a five star hotel and this is not acceptable Complaints had no effect except one table who then received much better food When we asked what the...

It feels a little churlish to give a poor review to a restaurant where everyone we met was charming and well presented. It's good to be in the rather stunning, outside rooftop garden and then to walk into the modern, well-presented restaurant. The problem, for...me, was that the food just wasn't that great. I don't mind when places stick to what they know and do good, straightforward food, cooked well. In this case, everything sounded interesting but just didn't deliver on flavour. I know what the Masterchef judges mean now when they say that they are looking for a sauce, or a bit more sauce. The sauces were a really weak point. In a restaurant where the flavours are carefully balanced, you...

After reading beautiful reviews about the afternoon in the glasshouse, I booked the scottish afternoon tea' for 2 as tasty bites for my daughter-in-law 30. birthday for her and my son. when I was in edinburgh the week before, I called and paid for in advance. Unfortunately, on the day my daughter-in-law, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was uneasy and not able to travel to edinburgh so that the booking had to be cancelled. I asked the service manager at 2 locations by e-mail if a refund would be possible. if I had not paid, there would have been no problem about a refund, and the hotel would have just had to confirm the cancellation that I would certainly have happened from time to time. I had a f... View menu

We could not fault the whole experience. We were greeted and shown to the restaurant, which was a lift and a walk through the whole hotel, which only made us wish we had booked a room. We were here for a pre-theatre meal, so it...was quiet at the time. I had noted on the booking that my partner was lactose intolerant and we have never been more catered for. They had already spoken to the chef and decided what they could offer us. This is rare, usually its a lot of backwards and forwards when ordering. The staff were so helpful and professional. We also really enjoyed the music. We had calamari and a terrine to start. With duck and a mushroom polenta stack (vegetarian) for mains. we were also...

We decided to try out this venue for a High Tea and the entire experience was a little surreal and underwhelming. Firstly the layout of the building is very disorienting, you enter from street level then go up in a lift to a corridor full...of bedrooms, you walk about 100 yards across the building, then go back down a circular stairway from which there are several exits one of which leads to the dining area we needed two different staff to show us the way. On arrival the place was completely deserted we were the only people there. The service was initially quite good, but once the high tea had been served they dissapeared completely for about 40 minutes, so we had to wait quite a while for t...
