"First note that the address of the Hideout Cafe we went to is 5 Upper Bow and it is now a small space (unlike some of the pictures on Tripadvisor). Speaking just for myself, I though the mozzarella sandwich there was delicious. However, my husband did not like his sandwich at all (I can't remember which he chose). The food menu is very limited at this cafe. Basically we went to the counter and pointed to sandwiches which were in the case and they heated them up. We were lucky to find some seats as there weren't many. I will say that lunch here was inexpensive and convenient as we were shopping on Lawnmarket St. nearby."

What an excellent find. A lovely little cafe just off the Royal Mile. The coffee is really good but the best bit was the honey cake, a must try!

This is the perfect place to go for an afternoon meal. The vegan sandwich was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would rate it 10 out of 10.

Charming little place, great atmosphere. Best scones I've ever had, and their chai latte was delicious. Very nice service, and a great location. Can't recommend it enough.

We love this place. Discovered it through a friend who goes there often. Great breakfasts, cake and coffee in an unpretentious space that feels warm and welcoming. Handy for Leith Links

This cafe, conveniently located across the street from our accommodation, was a delightful discovery! The coffee and cakes were excellent, and the service was extremely friendly. However, I recommend double-checking the address, as there have been some recent changes based on the photos on Tripadvisor.

We discovered a charming cafe in Old Town, Edinburgh that reminded us of one in Amsterdam. We enjoyed a tea and hot chocolate (which my husband raved about) and were tempted by the delicious looking pastries (although we had just eaten breakfast). The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was delightful. We would definitely return when visiting Edinburgh again.

The hideout is a great spot to head for a quick coffee and a bite to eat! The coffee is always consistent, the friendliness of the staff is always tops! It was the first place my partner and I went to when we first moved to the area and the guys made us feel so welcome. You can be sure to have a great experience in the hideout. The staff always ask you how you are and are always up for a chat and a skit. They really give their time to their customers. I also love that they just know our coffee order now. Keep up the smashing work guys

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
