"Family out for Sunday lunch, one requiring a gluten free meal. We were assured that the grouse on the specials menu was gluten free, so two of us ordered this and we ordered two portions of seasonal veg as extras. The grouse came with a jug of thick white blob, which we were later advised was bread sauce, not mentioned on the menu and clearly not gluten free. The vegetables had thick strands of noodles mixed through them (none of us had ordered noodles . When I complained to the waiter, he took my bowl to ask the chef, before returning with the same bowl saying that the chef said not to worry as they were just stray rice noodles! The waiter was clearly being left to take any flak, so I followed him to the till, to find the manager and chef in the bar. The manager basically said that it was a small kitchen, so you have to expect some cross-contamination (2-inch bits of noodle?! , while the chef brushed it off as just a schoolboy error . (If I 'd wanted my lunch cooked by a schoolboy... Neither the manager nor the chef appeared to grasp the seriousness of serving contaminated food, with the manager repeatedly assuring me that the ingredients were gluten free. Restaurant owners must understand that to label a dish as gluten free , or any allergen free or even NGCI (no gluten-containing ingredients , they are not just saying that they did not intend to include the allergen, but that they had taken measures to prevent contamination by the allergen. Clearly, serving a jug full of the allergen (as happened here is dangerous, but so is having such poor kitchen practices that different meals on the menu get mixed together. Our meal was cut short, as we could not trust any of the dishes to be gluten free; in fact we could not trust any of the dishes to be just what the menu said they were."

Gorgeous setting on the lake. Nice menu, decent food, service somewhat haphazard, could be so much better. Even so, a worthwhile dining experience

Travelled 23 miles to visit our favourite hotel/ bar for a drink and to watch the sun go down. We were greeted with barrage of questions from a young man behind the bar did you eat in the hotel restaurant ? are you...

We recently stayed over at the Lake of Mentieth Hotel and had an absolutely fabulous time. Our room was comfortable and the meals we had both dinner and breakfast were amazing. All of the staff were wonderful and really friendly and helpful and most importantly... View menu

Visited here twice this week, once for drinks then again for breakfast. Breakfast was excellent, best scrambled egg I’ve ever had, we had the fisherman’s breakfast (full Scottish) which was great value. Friendly, helpful staff and very dog friendly. In addition, a real added bonus was free EV Car charging too (3 chargers)

Once a fantastic venue , lost to mediocrity and a fast buck Stopped for lunch. , high season no one in for lunch Why the seriously expensive salty no mushroom soup and passable gammon sandwich . Staff were once we found them helpful But this is not The Foyer reading room It’s a once popular country hotel Reality check needed by management Maybe it’s a loss leader certainly a poor reflection on Karma ethos

We have stayed at the Lake of Mentieth hotel multiple times in the past and have always loved it so my husband decided to book there for my birthday dinner. The setting is still wonderful and I ordered a chicken curry. When it arrived I was so disappointed. The chicken was virtually inedible. There was no white meat and the chicken that was there was full of fat and gristle. I left virtually all my meal and we will not be back which is such a shame with the great location and how the food and service used to be. We would definitely not recommend View menu

We were thoroughly disappointed with our meal here today. While the spot was beautiful spectacular views over the water every single dish our party of 7 had from starter to main was poor. For a start it took nearly two hours to get our mains despite it not being busy (and no staff apologised or offered an explanation). Our drinks order was forgotten. And the food was really not good very salty, undercooked (veg and chips), some of the portions were tiny, meat dry etc. Despite the huge delay for food and all the problems with it we weren’t even offered an apology or small off the bill. I can’t comment on the accommodation and would return for the location if just for drinks but would not advi...

Been here and reviewed before. Hoped it would be better this time as the setting is so nice we wanted to give it another try. The hotel is very nice, well decorated and modern, however some of the food was not up to the expected standard at all. I had beef stroganoff what arrived was an oily stew. Cheap cut of meat which had a lot of fat gristle, slicks of oil on the plate, no sign of cream in the sauce. When I pointed this out to the waitress she said she 'd talk to the manager and see if she could get me a discount. I 'd only eaten half of it and wasn 't going to eat any more so I told her I wouldn 't be paying for it. Sadly the manager didn 't deem it important enough to come and see me a...
