"Disappointed this time whent today at 1pm, when we've been before the place has been very busy, not this time ,to say it was a Bank Holiday, it was very quiet, ther was only a couple in at 1 pm, the bartender told us the special was fish pie, we don't eat red meat, the wife doesn't like batter on fish, so she ordered the fish pie I had fish and chips, my dinner ok, but the wife's fish pie to much salt, not much fish a lot of mash cheese, the seasonal veg nearly cold, but worst of all was the bartender came to the next table said the special was fish pie chicken mushroom pie, now if he had told us that we both would have had it,that's our favorite, have a chance next week."

Cosy genuine old village pub with great choice of real ales kept in top order. The choice of food is impressive, from good pizzas, pub grub and more adventurous ideas. The salmon with chorizo mash was amazing. Very attentive and friendly staff

Living in the next village we much prefer the Old Ship in Lowdham. Proper food, great service and a welcoming atmosphere. A great range of beers (Oakham Citra was great), we had liver and onions and game casserole quality was fantastic and a great price support this gem of a pub!

What a fantastic little country pub, staff welcoming friendly. This was the first time visiting this pub we will be back Visited on a Sunday with family and totally enjoyed our meals. Most had the Sunday lunch (turkey, beef, lamb, chicken pork) with fresh veg . Quality, presentation quantity was excellent. All left room for pudding which were equally delicious. If in the area we would certainly recommend this establishment even if was for a drink.

Hadn’t booked and although they were really busy they managed to accommodate us. Food was lovely, Sunday lunches for us all, tender meat, generous portions, very tasty. Lots of choice, even for the roast meats, we all had different choices. Normal and specials also being served so not limited for choice at all. We were too full for pudding! Staff were very efficient and friendly. Don’t live nearby but will definitely make the effort to return. Excellent all round. Thanks for fitting us in. View menu

Despite being a bit pricey, the pub seemed pleasant until I witnessed the landlady yelling at customers at the bar. It turns out they had found something on top of a can and asked for a replacement, but she refused to serve them. The whole situation could have gone unnoticed by the other patrons if the landlady had not made a scene in front of everyone. Her behavior was rude and unnecessary, as she was the only one escalating the situation. If you cannot handle criticism or interact with customers respectfully, you should not be in a customer-facing role. This kind of behavior is unacceptable for a landlady.

Last minute decision to return to this lovely pub on a Monday evening for dinner having not eaten here for a few years. The new management and staff (Gary Lindsay) were very welcoming and friendly providing great service throughout our visit. Menu is extensive. We loved the fish chips and steak pie. Pleasant ambiance albeit pub was quiet due to miserable weather Monday eve. Great value for money..and just a surprisingly special evening that was last minute, quick meal original plan. We will definitely return to this very hospitable and friendly pub. Highly recommended having eaten at most local pubs in the area.

"I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit."
