"Fabulous pub, lovely décor, attentive staff, gorgeous food. We only stopped on the way to somewhere else but were so glad we did. If we lived closer we'd certainly be back, I would recommend The Royal Oak to all and everyone. Food drinks: My partner had the lamb on mash potato and to say he enjoyed it would be an understatement, it looked stunning and tasted even better. My scampi and chips didn't leave a lot for dessert but I did my best and had the rich chocolate torte, oh boy it was an eyes closed savour the moment."

I stopped for a quick half-pint after completing the Grisdal Pike/Grasmoor circuit. They had a great selection of standard beers as well as local ales. I opted for a half-pint of ale, which was nice and cool. Service: 5/5 Location: 5/5.

Amazing pub! We dined here three times during our week-long holiday, and each visit was flawless. The food was outstanding, the staff was friendly, and the overall experience was exceptional. A special mention goes to Freddie, who was friendly, attentive, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He definitely deserves a bonus! Thank you for making our holiday even more special. Delicious food! This place offers authentic British pub fare, and it was served excellently. Although it was quite busy, we received prompt service without any issues. The staff were all very friendly, which enhanced our experience. A major perk for us is that it's dog-friendly. Just a heads-up: there can be a lot of dogs around, so if your furry companion isn’t too social, it might be better to stay outside! Service: 5 stars.

We visited this pub for Sunday dinner on 27/08. There were 5 of us. We ordered 4 beef dinners and 1 pork, coming to £90. EASILY the worst meal that I have ever had. The pork was raw, literally pink. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt yet spongy. Cold, uncuttable roasties. Rest of the veg was rubbish apart from the peas. See-through gravy. Basically absolutely rubbish. A decent chef would not have sent this meal out. A few visits years ago were fine, but this was really below standards.
