"Firstly it’s important to say I’m disappointed that I’ve had to write this review, as I’ve had numerous excellent visits here and still rate them as my favourite tasting burger around! Why then the 2 star review and a review that replaces my previous 5 star review? Visited with friends expecting the food to be up to its usual high standards. After a few rounds of drinks and nearly £100 spent we ordered our meals. My friend and his g/f ordered their food first (identical to what we ordered . Ours arrived a good ten minutes before theirs leaving us hanging about waiting so we could all eat together. Having poured out my chips I noted I had half of everyone else (6 and one black one! . Onion rings on both of ours were also cremated. Rather than make a fuss in front of friends I chose to politely speak to a young gentleman at the bar. I politely expressed my disappointment at such a meagre portion for £10.50 and the fact I’d received half of all of my fellow diners (and much less than previous visits . He apologised, saying he would bring out some more. 5 minutes later he came out to say that was a standard portion and I wouldn’t be getting anymore. That’s great if my fellow guests hadn’t ordered the same dish and received double what I had, with all their chip pots full! Despite being embarrassed I remained polite but stated I wasn’t impressed and not at all happy about it all and couldn’t promise I wouldn’t be writing a review. A young woman came out from the kitchen slagging me off to her colleagues saying “I don’t care, he can do what he wants!”. In the interests of courtesy to my friends I wasn’t going to bite! What is puzzling is the fact that the burger comes swamped with cheese (always has done . Cost of cheese clearly outweighs the cost of a handful of chips! Rather than give me a few extra chips to match my guests portions or to simply shut me up the rude lady chose to abuse me to her colleagues instead! The complete lack of customer service and disregard for how much we had spent with you as a business was appalling and cost you the extra £150 we spent on other food and drink elsewhere! Was it really worth standing your ground over what must be pennies? I attach pics of two of our previous visits where the normal portion of chips is clearly shown, compared to the insult that was served to me on the day! As noted on most negative reviews I appreciate this might generate a sarcastic response. Most of these responses say “had we been made aware at the time, we would have made efforts to resolve” I can categorically say zero effort was made to try and resolve the complaint. No one even had the courtesy to come and speak with me other than the male staff member who was apologetic throughout, seemingly embarrassed having agreed how few chips had been served. I certainly left resenting spending so much with you as well as supporting your business many times before. I fully appreciate at times things go wrong and a certain situation totally unrelated to me or my complaint may have influenced how I was treated at that point in time. All I can say is that having been polite throughout I neither deserved it or appreciated it All for the sake of a few chips!"

My partner and I came here with my daughter, son in law and baby 22 months. Very accommodating staff. Wonderful meal that we all enjoyed. We live in Cardiff so too far to come often. If we are up here again will definitely visit again.

Lovely lunch served hot, promptly and was delicious. Husband had a breakfast and was cooked perfectly. I had the chicken stack which was tasty, hot and well presented with lovely fresh side salad. Very enjoyable and perfect lunch. Thank you.

We love The Swan restaurant, especially after browsing our favourite bookshop in Thornbury. This time my friend had Steak Pie, chips and peas, and I had a special off the board, Sweet and Sear Chicken and chips! Wow that was so tasty! Staff are charming, efficient and jolly! It was a real pleasure! Highly recommended! View menu

Visited The Swan, for afternoon tea, two adults and two children. We arrived to a table set with beautiful, vintage crockery. The amount of food was amazing, sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and cream. The children had very high praise for the red velvet cake and brownies. It was a lovely treat on a Wednesday afternoon, after school.

I had a wake here recently with lots of friends and family, from far and wide, meeting up to pay thier respects. The staff had gone over and above to make this a smooth and memorable experience. The buffet food was absolutly fantastic. The pub was tranformed for a few to hours to make this a special occasion, putting up many photos and a black board and table of memories and flowers, a lot of organisation had gone into the event by staff. The staff were so kind and accomodating and the venue was very fitting.

Thank you to lots to Pedro and all the other staff, including Charlie the Biggest, Friendliest Alsatian in the World. We had all three rooms the night before my brother's wedding at the local golf club. Right from arrival the whole team were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They opened the kitchen especially for all of us and the service couldn't have been better. The same service extended to breakfast and they let us check out later than we should have so we could get dressed for the wedding. Thank You! View menu

We came upon the Swan by chance and so very glad that we did. The service was second to none and so was the food. I cannot recommend The Swan highly enough without swearing : Just go try it out for yourselves and see. An ideal location in a very nice safe area. If you live in Bristol it isnt far away. five stars from me. Also Thornbury is a very walkable little town, plenty of charity shops too...... just be aware.....park sensibly in the car parks 2 hours free, they do have travelling parking wardens unnecessarily lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce.

I never bother with trip advisor for a review but The Swan Thornbury is definitely worth a shout! Me and my work colleague stayed here 2 weeks ago and couldn’t wait to get get back booked in. The only fault we could pick with the place is the shared bathroom for the accommodation but don’t let this out you off! The showers are as good as any premier inn/ travelodge. I found the beds extremely comfy! The food is spot on and very good value for money especially in this day ‘n’ age. Plenty of choice on which ever beverage tickles your fancy. Relaxed atmosphere within the bar area. Friendly staff. Friendly German Shepard. Well recommended by ourselves.

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
