"I have visited this restaurant before and decided that it was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived, we were asked if we were celebrating anything and I mentioned that it was my birthday. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with soft lighting. I was immediately given a complimentary glass of champagne and a birthday card from the restaurant, which I found to be a very thoughtful gesture. We had a starter, main course, and dessert, and the food was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Although a sauce was initially missing from my fillet steak, it was quickly brought out when I asked for it. They even decorated my dessert with "Happy Birthday". We ordered starters, main courses, desserts, soft drinks, and cocktails, and the total bill came to just under £100, which I felt was good value for money. The plates and cutlery were modern in design, and the chairs were comfortable. There was a bar area within view, with a small screen separating the two areas. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. "Went tonight for tea to celebrate my 65th Birthday and my Dad’s 89th Birthday. Absolutely appalling! The service was diabolical we waited for an hour for them to come and take the orders. The waitress came back 10 minutes later to say no Gammon and no fillet steak! It then took another 10 minutes to come back to take the replacement order. Food came out there were items missing off plates, things on plates that shouldn’t have been there. All the meat was cold but so were the plates. The extras that were ordered had to be asked for! The manager was called over, he was rude and patronising. All in all this spoilt our birthday celebrations. We did not wait to order desserts as did not want to be disappointed again. Came away after eating virtually nothing. Will not be going again for sure"

"our first visit, and it was for our second wedding anniversary, we had a pretty early table when I drove (from newport) and knew that after eating I would delight a few drinks in our city. we were received and sitting politely and efficiently and found the ground personnel fully attentive. our order was made for appetizers and most importantly after we had made our decisions, and that came to eat. it was very pleasant; I had the pigeon breast star and my wife had garlic mushrooms, both were delicious. net, I had a rag steak (a very good rag and cooked just like a rare one) and my better half had the venison suet, both beautiful. we went into gloomy, I had a hot wad with around and rosin ice, and my dame had a cheeseboard and harbour. again, beautiful. beautiful spatial features, pleasant and attentive staff, and clearly running with care would certainly recommend."

"looks and feels like a family in the possession and a family run pub. spacious exterior seats with stands, tables and a marquee. the plentiful play area and size jungle jim was fun to like the children, but not to kick a ball over the chew! eating looked pretty good, but tasty! really nice freshly cooked veg, an amazing yorks pud. the chicken cake was beautiful. four real ales on hahn. a lot of parking right in front of the a5."

"the staff is polite and helpful, eating is excellent whether it is breakfast or dinner, the decor in the bar/restaurant is beautifully made, tasteful and in harmony with the charm of the building. at this price low point for the room reflects the tired carpets, uncomfortable matrateze and the bad dewatering in the sink and shower, but nothing would hold me back (perhaps with a mattress cup) because the 2 overnight with breakfast was an absolute bargain. if the rooms on the same high standard as the restaurant it would be twice to pay the price to stay"
