"Having been here (many times) previously, I went with an open mind, to view the refurbishment, and taste the food, described on their website as full of flavour and incredibly delicious Arriving at (between existing customers finishing breakfast which apparently ended at lunch which didn't start until we were shown to a table but told no service until Observations: the restaurant is light airy, plenty of space between tables. But there are x entrances causes a problem when people are queuing for tables at one end, and others are using the other entrance. Having waited minutes we asked for a menu so we could be ready to order. That took a further minutes to appear, so we ordered drinks. Drinks appeared we ordered food at By the time food appeared the teapot for (no hot water), with miniscule milk, had been drained. The Sandwiches described as all served with Salad Coleslaw came with a lettuce leaf, a single slice of cucumber and a teaspoon of coleslaw. No Onion, No Tomato. There was more sourdough bread than Tuna filling. The baked feta with lentils at portion size was more like a starter. The side portion of salt pepper chips came with huge slices of peppers amongst the chips I would have expected small chunks of peppers scattered over them (or maybe that's just me At over for a light lunch I doubt we will be dining here again. It's a shame it could be so much better and cheaper! Why be so pretentious? Offer Brown/White Bread why just Sourdough Ciabatta's?? Oh yes what is The Whitaker? It's a Museum not a café So a look around at the ground floor (museum) before we left did nothing to enamour me. The old exhibits are crammed into the dark, poorly lit, rear rooms (behind the shop toilets), whilst the sunny front rooms are used for exhibition, and what appeared to be a children's craft area? Richard Whitaker donated this building to the people of Rawtenstall as a museum. or then maybe somewhere along the way, everyone has forgotten that!"

A group of friends and I met for lunch at this restaurant. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious - some of us had the king prawn skewers with couscous, while one person tried the celeriac dish from the special menu. I highly recommend trying the specials.

Lovely lunch at the revamped ‘bar and restaurant’ at the Whittaker. The restaurant space is complete new. Limited menu but the vegetarian options. Friendly staff. Pop in to the re-designed natural history museum and the art gallery. Nice walks in the parkland area. A great...community space.

I ordered the roast beef, but was served a cardboard-like Yorkshire pudding, dry cauliflower cheese with no sauce, and practically raw broccoli and cauliflower. The meal was inedible. There was no check back from the staff, and the service was poor. We will not be returning to dine here again. It is a shame to see the decline in quality at this establishment.

After a walk we decided to have breakfast as a treat. Disappointed doesn't even cover it . Food was overcooked and over priced, pretentious is a word that comes to mind. pounds for breakfast!! I am happy to pay for food if the quality...is a match of the price. Then was addressed at the till as love and questioned when I declined putting a gratuity on the bill. Needless to say we will not return.

This restaurant prioritizes the comfort of male patrons over female customers. I visited their gender neutral restroom after a man had used it and encountered a puddle of urine in front of the toilet, a dirty seat, and no hook to hang my bag. I felt very uncomfortable. It seemed that the restaurant ignored the fact that men tend to be messier than women and dismissed my concerns in the name of being "inclusive".

Just an awful, awful restaurant. Food was served cold and was given dirty looks when asked for it to be heated. Couldn’t remember who had what when bringing it back out. Made to feel like the problem when trying to get this resolved. Particularly pathetic...when you consider that this was Sunday lunch and only two meats were picked by the six of us so essentially the same food being prepared for all. Not cheap either. Avoid.

First and last visit at the new Whittaker…came for a bite to eat but didn’t stay!.how can a cafe stop serving food at and start again at The old Whittaker was so much better full of atmosphere, the bar in the front was...a great meeting place, this new place looks like a school canteen, none of the old faces around either?! Also why does it now need a reception desk and shop?! It used to be dog friendly too,not anymore! So all the people who go walking in the park with their dogs can either sit outside in the cold or go somewhere else! Plenty of other places to spend your money!!

It’s was a bit of a disappointment my meal here today. I’ve been looking forward to trying the food here since the revamp. We went for the Sunday lunch and one of us had the Dukka spiced cauliflower steak and the other had the roast...beef. The positives are the small chopped up vegetables on the roast dinner and the gravy was really nice. The Tabouleh salad served with cauliflower as also lovely. However that’s where it ended. The cauliflower was almost raw on both plates. The roast potatoes were dry and so was the beef, and the Yorkshire puddings were flat and tasted of oil, obviously the oil wasn’t hot enough before the batter was added hence why they were flat and oil tasting. The staff...
