"We came here for lunch this week, and my companion had ham, egg and chips with garden peas, which he said were excellent. I had fish and chips and garden peas also excellent, in fact some of the best chips I've ever had, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and piping hot. The fish was in large, moist flakes in perfect batter. We were very impressed and mighty pleased. The portions were so generous that I couldn't finish all my chips (very unusual for this greedy gal). The staff were efficient and charming, the place was clean and fresh as was the toilets (with a special key, which is a good idea healthwise). Yes, we love The White Lion at Thornbury highly recommended!"

The food was excellent and the beer was good. Everyone in our group was satisfied with their meals, but the service could have been better with more staff.

We found the staff so very friendly in this wonderful pub. It was a hot sunny day so we enjoyed drinks in the garden but was thankful for an umbrella for the shade. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Abi and her team were really helpful in organising a recent family wake. They listened and responded to our requests and were able to support us to adhere to the COVID requirements. We were pleased with the event and the service we received. Thank you. View menu

I went to lunch today with my mother. We ordered fish and chips, but what we received was an oversized dried-up fish finger. We asked for sauce and were only given one tiny sachet to share between the two of us. The atmosphere was lacking, and we felt completely ripped off. We left the restaurant still hungry. I will never be returning.

This pub was the quieter of the two on this part of the high street. Since the pub across the road was playing 'Build Me Up Buttercup ', I was keen to come here instead. The pun was really friendly, as were the locals and when a rogue man with a knife was wandering up and down the high street the staff calmly locked us all in and kept us safe. They dealt with it very well.

Dropped in for lunch with my mum. We had the liver casserole and I have to say it was delicious. It was home made and the seasoning and flavour perfect served with proper mash and vegetables that were cooked perfectly it was really good value for money. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. The customer experience was really good too the lady that served us was friendly and efficient. This was the best pub meal I’ve had in a long time and excellent value for what you got View menu

I attended a family gathering at this restaurant. The space was too small to comply with Covid regulations. There were 6 of us, all strangers, and we had to sit at a table meant for 4 people. The staff said it was acceptable. The landlady was rude and unpleasant. She should have been more understanding of the situation but seemed more focused on her regular customers. The food was not appetizing. This restaurant used to be nice, but not anymore. I would recommend avoiding it at all costs.

Came here for a lunch function of approximately 80 people (think we pretty well took over the place! and the buffet was superb. A great range of choice from Indian nibbles to Greek salads and very generous portions. The rolls had so much content that many places would have spread it over two or three rather than only one roll! Despite our numbers and the best efforts of six hungry teenagers there was plenty left and the organisers left it for the benefit of the regulars to nibble on that evening. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. If their regular menu is up to the same standard I would highly recommend this pub.

"Went for an impromptu meal with her indoors, as this was a local pub we've not been in for a long time we thought will pop in. Greeted by an over enthusiastic bar person who was dragging out the empties from the night before, ordered a couple of drinks and we sat down with the menu's, after perusing the menu we were ready to order, at the same time we were ready a regular couple walked in and sat at there regular table and oredered there regular meal, but the regular gentleman actually wanted an extra sausage with his sausage and chips, well! The kerfuffle this caused was astronomical, this conversation went on for Many many minutes, my wife and I was desperately trying to catch her attention to have another drink, eventually my wife went to the bar and waited, we got served eventually. Then our food came out of the kitchen, we went for the light bites as we were in a snacky mood, Chicken strips Mozzarella bites Chips with curry sauce and nachos. We never got the nachos as there was no guacamole BTW Chips came out which were actually fries, covered in this sauce, gross, then we had 3 chicken strips with no garnish £4.95 £1.63 each Then 4 mozzarella bites came out, no, nothing else just 4 mozzarella bites, £4.95 £1.24 each. So if you want have your pants pulled down and be robbed of your hard earned cash then this is the place to go, as for me and my wife we won't be. We did mention the poor quality and value for money but it was brushed under the dirty carpet and she was going to feed our comments back to the kitchen."

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
