"I have eaten twice at this restaurant. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, quiet and well lit. It 's tucked away on level 1 and you don 't have to be resident at the Premier Inn hotel to use it. I have heard that it can get busy so maybe best to book for peak times. Both times I ate there were a great experience. The first time was as a solo diner (business trip) and I was out at ease and had a little table tucked away. I chose the ribs and upgraded my chips... it 's well worth upgrading those chips. The ribs fell apart and so tasty. The portion was huge so be prepared to possibly leave some if you order a starter or an 'add on '. The wait staff are very attentive, even those not assigned to my table smiled over and asked if everything was OK. I told them it was the best meal I had in ages s d they seem genuinely happy to hear that. The second visit was with a couple of colleagues and it didn 't seem a problem that we all wanted individual receipts. We arrived at 5:30pm and during the week there is happy hour of 2 4 1 on drinks so it was £3.80 for 2 pints of Stella... not bad. This time I chose the BBQ burger stack and it was just as tasty as the ribs. We ordered the dipping breads to share which were lovely, nice soft mini breads with various dipping sauces and a garlic butter. We also ordered the add on of 3 fried chicken wings, 10 onion rings and coleslaw great value at £2.99 for all of that. I 'll definitely return and upgrade my chips again."

Used the restaurant for breakfast as staying in the Premier Inn and usual standard self service buffet style breakfast. Good food for a good price as expected.

We stayed at the hotel but the restaurant is also open to the public. The food was good although the service was a little slow. They had run out of steak any kind of steak which was disappointing.

Arrived about 7-45 Tuesday eve. Various staff talking and could see me waiting but did not come over. Eventually, one lady came over. When I said I had not booked she said they were fully booked and wait would be 45 mins. Given that I could see at least 6 tables unoccupied, I judged they just did not want my business. I went to the restaurant at Jury's instead who offered a good set menu selection for under £20. Shame as I am normally a supporter of Premier Inn.

We had breakfast when staying in the hotel and it was excellent value. There was a choice of continental or full English but there was more choice for the full English. It was what you would expect for a basic hotel (pots of yoghurt, brown or white bread, rather than lots of choice but what there was available was well presented and well cooked. The staff were attentive and helpful at all times, and took time to find out what the kids wanted and made sure it was there for them.

Three of us. Sirloin steak cooked to perfection. Chicken fillet with bacon and cheese so 'delicioso '. But chicken curry just so so, of course one should go to a South Asian restaurant for curry, shouldn 't you? Drinks good value Villa Maria S.B. a real find. And a French Coffee at the end of the evening was sublime. The young staff were a cosmopolitan mix who really took great care and attention over us even on a busy night. The real reason I 've done this reveiw is to congratulate the staff on their rare honesty. Back in the room, there was a knock on the door and one of the waitresses was there with my wallet! Stupid silly me had left it on my chair on the restaurant. You never expect to...

So it was Sunday evening and not very busy so maybe service could have been a little quicker, but all courses were well cooked and well presented. I chose the Dinner and Breakfast Meal Deal. They had a new summer menu, so I had the Potted Crab, followed by the Sea Bass. The main course was cooked properly, whereas earlier in the year, the main (Grilled salmon) had taken an hour to be served and was burnt, hence the title of the review. The only strange thing was that when I came to pay, by credit card, the waitress said she wasn't allowed to add a tip. Strange, as that has happed in Thyme hotels I have visited previously. Breakfast the following was the standard Premier Inn fare, although th...

"I hadn't been here since my mother brought me as a teenager in 1965, when it was the Chalet Suisse. We were welcomed by a waitress seeing us coming and opening the door for us, ushered to a table by the window. We both had a fish dish, myself a crab-stuffed fillet of plaice, my wife a seabass paella with mussels. My plaice was succulently fresh, with a subtly spiced filling and sauce, The new potatoes were perfect. My wife is from a fishing family in Brittany so really knows her fish, and her saffron paella met with unconditional approval. The buckshee bread chunks in a basket already on the table were left, so I could enjoy mopping up the last of the lovely flavour of the juice. After polishing off the little extra pot of sweet potato fries, for dessert we had a special, Eton Mess, and banana cream profiteroles, which we swapped half way through, just gorgeous, and a filter coffee to finish off. With a couple of beers all for a fraction over £50 this was extraordinary value. This was no ordinary pub-chain grub. Every dish had something unusual and special to commend it, whether the spicy crab or the tart passionfruit syrup setting off the usually overwhelmingly sweet Eton Mess. This was proper cooking by someone who really knows their stuff, nicely presented but without fuss. Our fellow diners were all friendly and accomodating in a fairly small space, some engaging in jolly conversation with us. The service was attentive, kind. and unobtrusive. There was music but not overly loud and the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. I've heard this place mentioned by others before over the years and very much wish we'd made the effort to visit before now, our wedding anniversary. We will go again for sure, and take others with us too!"

"This is a small, very nice, non-chain coffee shop selling tea, coffee, some savoury sandwiches plus snacks and cakes. (Not to be confused with 'Smoothbean ' which is also in Croydon and also very good, but the two have no connection.)What 's good about it? It 's non-chain, so you 're actually dealing with nice people offering good service, not just wage slaves at the front end of a vast, impersonal corporation. The quality of the tea and coffee is as good as anywhere else. The service is warm, human, friendly and personal. The staff are efficient and helpul but also pleasantly informal. They don 't have a very wide selection of things to eat. However, what they DO have is all very nice and good value, whether you want savoury and healthy or sweet and indulgent. I loved the little 'bakesmiths ' cakes they sell that say 'made by hand in small batches ' on the label. What 's maybe not so good? Well, it 's not in what you 'd call a great location. Plus it 's really small. Upstairs (at street level) there are just two small tables and space for maybe five or six people at most (assuming some don 't mind sitting at the window). Downstairs, there are a chairs and sofas providing room for about eight people, although it 's a bit cramped. All in all, the think to love about Crushed Bean is the tone, the atmosphere, the fact that it 's small, friendly and informal and run by human beings rather than branded corporate drones intent on hitting targets. Go there at a not-too-busy time and you can enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet and know that you 're choosing to support a small, independent coffee shop and not one of the behemoth chains. Bonus good point #1: if you ask for your milk on the side, it comes in a miniature milk bottle. This cute touch should be standard practice but isn 't.Bonus good point #2: They offered me a free tea refill. Nowhere else that I 've been to does this.Bonus good point #3: They are right opposite Cake Box, a wonderful emporium of gloriously unhealthy options."
