"I booked here after searching for dog friendly, gluten free friendly and good food. Focussing on the good stuff, booking confirmed both dogs and GF accommodated. Very friendly on arrival. Very lovely building and interior. The dog friendly area was lovely. On the menu dishes were identified with GFA which meant ‘Gluten Free or Adaptable’ with a good choice. We ordered 3 roast dinners. My GFA beef and Yorkshire pudding arrived without the Yorkshire. After checking it transpires that to meet GFA the Yorkshire pudding was simply removed. No other option. I was told I could have the YP with gluten if I wanted it… When we ordered desserts I checked first confirmed that the GFA fruit fool and crumble was in face just the fruit fool. When we shared our reasonable feedback about the interpretation of GFA, the lady listened but made no comment or acknowledgement. She didn’t actually seem concerned either way although friendly enough. The meals themselves were reasonable, the meat good quality. The gravy was lovely. Overall I thought the food was expensive for a pleasant enough but not fabulous Sunday roast. I would not return as a GF diner. It seems like a small thing but GF adaption being equal to just leaving out parts of the dish that have gluten in them doesn’t feel very welcoming. Do go there for pleasant regular food, a lovely setting, (overall) friendly staff and dog friendly indoor eating. I have marked down on value for money, and for the GFA experience. Take away the GF stuff and it’s 4 stars."

A proper pub. We stopped by for a mid-afternoon pint whilst trying to walk off some of our excessive lunch at The Suffield. A smattering of locals were propping up the bar on a Monday, the fire was blazing, it was comfortable and there was a good range of ale on handpull. All very satisfying. View menu

There were 6 of us including two young ones. We were welcomed and quickly down our table and then the usual request for drinks. Our order was taken and at about 7 our food arrived. The meat and ale pie was sensational! The staff were good and could not have been more helpful but it took longer than I expected for the food to arrive. The Bailey's cheesecake was brilliant. The place was heaving and very popular the food was really good. I had the chickpea curry and it was nowhere near as good as the pies. It's worth the wait and we are going again.

We booked as always (they are quite popular! and as always, the staff are warm and welcoming. We had mains and desserts, everything we ordered was great! My wife enjoyed her salmon, my daughter finished off her pasta (very generous portion for kid menu and then proceeded onto my fluffy chips (I had one of their Time from ordering to food was amazing though we were early eaters, even so the place was busy but atmosphere was warm, pleasant without the decibel level of most pubs/restaurants. We’ve been coming for a few years now and each time we are always pleased with the level of service (and relieved that they haven’t changed Prices reflect the quality of their product, no doubt we will be...
