"At a recent business lunch at Brasenose, where four of us decided to try the 'one of each and lets share ' approach from the starters on the 1777 menu at lunchtime, mid week. The dishes, true reflections of the diversity of the establishment, made a good impression. The Cantonese Crispy Chicken was a pleasant surprise. Its succulent, crispy exterior paired excellently with the sweet chilli sauce. The combination of sweet and savoury notes was a real winner. For the vegetarians among us, the Triple Cheese and Tarragon Stuffed Mushrooms were a standout. The blend of cheeses and tarragon created an explosion of flavours. Served with a rocket salad and garlic oil, it was a perfect balance of taste and texture. The Beetroot Walnut pate was a revelation in plant based cuisine. The earthy notes of beetroot, the crunch of walnuts and sunflower seeds, and the creaminess pate were a match made in culinary heaven. The apple chutney provided a lovely cutting contrast. The Whitebait with lemon and tabasco mayonnaise was a delightful treat. The crispy coating revealed tender, flavoursome whitebait, and the dip added a zesty kick. We added some sweet potato and regular fries to these to make a varied and lovely mezze. A good selection of non alcoholic drinks, including beer, cider, gin and Nosecco were offered. Service was attentive yet relaxed, striking a perfect balance. The staff at Brasenose ensured our dining experience was enjoyable and hassle free. In summary, our business lunch at Brasenose, was exactly what was needed and good value for money. Each dish showcased the skill of the chefs. I wholeheartedly recommend Brasenose for a business lunch its great food, friendly service, and comfortable atmosphere."

"While the staff are very pleasant and polite they are clearly lacking from training and spent more time at the bar flirting with the barman than paying attention to the diners. We sat in the room next to the bar which felt like an overflow room, cold dark and empty. The food was flavoursome and presented beautifully however my pork belly was dry and over cooked. The gravy was like water. No one came to check if the food was OK or any problems both in starter and mains. Even when collecting the empty plates no one asked if everything was OK. The gents toilets had no way of drying hands, no hand dryer or towels. The ladies toilet bin was overflowing. During the course of our meal the staff had used a large table behind us next to the bar to polish cutlery which not only looked messy but I don't expect to pay that much and have to raise my voice to talk over the sound of cutlery clattering about, that should never be done in front of customers. A table had a cleaning products (spray bottle and cloth) left on it the entire time we sat there, staff had cleared it then started to clean it and just forgotten to finish the job. Overall the experience wasn't horrendous but I wouldn't visit again. I feel the manager clearly has low standards and doesn't train thier staff on the little single things that make all the difference. One final note is that i feel its insulting to add a service charge (which i did ask to be removed) if the service warrents it i will always tip my server and tip well. If a service charge is added i am more likely to remove it and not tip at all. Service charges are owners greed and make staff lazy as they dont feel the need to go the extra mile for the tip. Overall a real shame"

"Flavour mostly great, but felt short changed. Been before, money wasn’t an issue, ordered food tasted great. Went today on the way back from something, but feel a bit disappointed. Couldn’t choose between the club sarnie, the chorizo and red pepper crostini and the dhal, so opted for all 3. The club sandwich offers maximum flavour, but lacks on substance for me. If I’m paying £13,50 for a club sandwich I want to be remotely full at the end attached is a picture of one of the 2 same sized pieces of chicken not good enough. The basil Mayo is to die for, I will add. The crostini, again, isn’t anywhere near filling enough to warrant the price. You can’t deny the flavour, but one slice of sourdough with a few cooked peppers, some aioli and 3 slithers or chorizo isn’t just cause for charging £14 it’s not on. What’s frustrating is again, the flavour is superb, but it’s here’s just not enough there to warrant the hefty price. Then we get on to the Dhal, which to be frank was an utter disgrace. Sour, watery, lacked seasoning and overall depth. Undercooked root veg on top and just an out and out disappointment, especially when the other 2 dishes we’d ordered weren’t sizeable enough to quell any hunger pains. A decent sized portion, just a shame it was such a poor dish. Also, £6.25 for a milkshake is an utter disgrace and you should be ashamed of yourselves. Perplexed the place is as busy as it is. Staff seem attentive and friendly, can’t quarrel that but the portion sizes are hugely substandard, given the astronomical prices. Won’t be rushing back, which is a shame. Not much around those parts with the ideas and flavour (aside from the watery dhal), but the portions are 50% too small. I will add, my wife and I are slight, modest eaters far from greedy pigs."

"Really disappointed with the trip advisors as much as the pub. This was our first time here so we were looking forward to it based on the recent reviews. I rang and tried to book a table for 6:00 to 6.30 and was encouraged to make it 6 as they were busy later. When we turned up we were the only people there for half an hour and then 2 other couples came in before we left at 7:25pm. We ordered the dough balls to start and the garlic butter was frozen. The menu of lots of different pies on offer from the previous tenants was still visible but not on offer. The menu was very limited unless you wanted pizza. I ordered the crown burger because the confit duck leg was unavailable. My partner ordered the chicken chasseur. The burger came out on the smallest plate I have ever seen a main course served on in a pub or restaurant and it was tiny. It was £16 and an extra £1 for the cheese and another £1.50 for the single slice of bacon. The portion of fries came in a mug size cup! The chicken chasseur sauce was see through and was extremely watery and wasn't right. It came with no veg and a similar size portion of chips to mine and that was it! £42.50 for one portion of dough balls and 2 mains. The most disappointing thing was the way that our complaint was dealt with by the manager and staff. Nothing not even an apology. We eat out every week and have only had to stop on the way home once before to get something more to eat. This was the second time!!"
