"My other half and I had an evening meal here, which was simply the best meal out we’ve had in a long, long time. My OH had a chicken satay starter fabulous. Not too sweet, had real live bits of peanut in the sauce, and came accompanied by cucumber and salad. For mains, I had flat iron steak with pepper sauce, peppers, courgette, roast garlic and perfect chunky chips (think that was it). It was cooked to perfection and such a relief to find a pub that doesn’t roll out an overcooked steak with the ubiquitous onion rings, half a tomato, mushroom/s and skinny chips. The OH had salmon, which came with crushed new potatoes and lots of nice veg none of which he can remember this morning. Hey ho. Dessert for each of us was a pavlova with whipped cream, zingy lemon curd, raspberries and strawberries. This was just as fabulous as everything else. So impressed. Every dish was artfully presented, the flavours considered and the cooking absolutely spot on. Not a soggy vegetable in sight. Lovely people, too, our waiter was a smiley gentleman from Turkey and the chef and (we believe, although this is an assumption) his wife, who incidentally brought the food out themselves (nice touch), were Kiwis. Altogether a lovely experience and one that I recommend wholeheartedly to others."

Excellent food, just a shame we were the only people in on a Friday evening. Understand it was busier earlier on but disappointing that there was absolutely no atmosphere. Good menu which changes regularly. Will definitely return, maybe for Sunday brunch or a lunch next time though.

it was either the manager or the owner, was being rude to staff, told one of the staff members off for serving me because i knew him, told me i wasn’t as important as other customers, got the others to serve the owners friends before they serve me when i’d been in there an hour already

Living locally we like to use the Royal Sun. In June it reopened under the management of Dee and Wayne and the food is ezcellent. We've been for dinner and for lunch, then yesterday had for the most delicious Eggs Benedict Brunch. So lovely to see modern food without a reliance on everything with chips.

What a delightful pub and restaurant. Most of all the staff are so accommodating and the service was excellent. We recently had an evening meal there and enjoyed it so much that we returned as part of a family group to try the Sunday roast. We will definitely continue to use this restaurant as it represents excellent value for quality meals.

The pub looks a bit uninviting from the outside and could do with a few hanging baskets. The inside is really nicely decorated and had a nice ambience. Wayne the owner and chef was friendly and approachable. The Sunday roast was extremely tasty as were all of the desserts. The menu had some really nice sounding meals on it. Service a bit on the slow side considering the restaurant was fairly quiet.

What a lovely pub and a great find. Myself and a friend were enroute to a weekend event and stopped here for a quick drink. Then on the way back we stopped in the hope to grab dinner. However the kitchen had closed. But the landlord was amazing he offered us some food regardless and prepped it before going on our merry way. Scampi and chips was order of the day and it was delicious. Will definitely return for more food. Setting was great and service exceptional.

We only went out for a walk but decided to call in for a pint at The Royal Sun. Then we had another and then decided to have a meal of Buttered Chicken with rice and naan which was superb and this was accompanied with a bottle of wine. We were able to enjoy our drinks and meal on a large patio area on this warm, sunny evening. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we're looking forward to our next visit there. What a great unplanned evening! Good Luck to the new landlord!

We stopped here on our way back from Blenheim Palace because we were hungry and had no idea where to go. We drove past and took a chance. We were really pleased that we did. It’s small, cosy and really nicely set out inside with friendly service and, most importantly, good food. My wife and I both had flat iron steak which was cooked perfectly with a delicious peppercorn sauce, lovely chunky chips and really nice roasted vegetables (including half a head of roasted garlic). Our sons had chicken nuggets from the kids menu which where good quality and they loved (though they love any chicken nuggets so it doesn’t say much). For desert I had sticky toffee pudding and my wife had a baileys and c...

"I’m frustrated and annoyed with booking a romantic meal for our year wedding anniversary, with the current pandemic and work commitments it made a change to make an effort and be excited to visit the boxing hare as the reviews had been excellent. We...were seated in the garden room, next to a family who were on first name terms with the waiting staff and who were so loud I thought I was at a Chelsea match! We received complimentary glasses of champagne and we placed our order for starters and main which were excellent however I felt rushed with the service, as much as I tried to have a conversation all I could hear was this family at decibels to which enough was enough usually I would say something, however rather than ruin there evening I asked for us to be reseated to which the waiting staff were in agreement that they were loud! So why place us next to them? We were given a table in a different part of the pub still busy with other diners giving respect to one another. The table given I was advised I had as it was reserved? I placed dessert order and two lattes with baileys followed by the bill! The bill was a tad on the steep side for a gastro pub perhaps the prices are based on the price of fuel to fill the owners Bentley Overall felt it was a rushed evening disappointed with the seating arrangements,I won’t be returning as I felt what was important to us wasn’t important to the Boxing Hare I’ve had better evenings at The Falkland Arms Great Tew, The Great Western Aynho"
