"We were staying at Orchard Campsite in Reeth so I looked for somewhere to eat on Friday night i booked a table in case it was busy. It’s a 5 minute stroll from campsite there are 2 other pubs also in this very pretty village, we drank in both but didn’t eat in either) when we arrived it was very quiet, but a warm pleasant atmosphere. We ordered a drink at the bar and then were shown our table, perfect I asked for a table in a corner because we have a vocal but friendly dog. On the table was a water bowl and a bowl of dog treats and cooked meat for our dog this is a very considerate and lovely touch. There were 2 young lads serving one behind the bar and the other serving food to tables. They were like a comedy duo both were extremely friendly and plenty of good humoured banter between themselves, we were lucky that we had a similar taste in music Download Festival chat) but they were happy and pleasant to everyone that came in. We ordered the Fish Friday special 2 fish suppers for £16.95) very quick service and amazing value for money, I couldn’t fault any part of either of our dinners, fresh crispy battered fish, not too many chips and good mushy peas. Obviously we were not the only ones thinking this as it soon filled up and most tables were taken. Service was efficient and friendly to everyone. My only 1 niggle which started out as funny but ended up being a bit annoying after hearing it a dozen times is the tune that lets the staff know the food is ready in the kitchen while I understand there has to be something loud enough for them to hear over happy drinkers and diners, I’m sure a couple of bell rings would be adequate, or a light that stays lit til food is picked up from the kitchen I am a chef and am sure the chefs think it is highly amusing pressing this button but if your in there as a customer for a couple of hours on a busy evening not so much). Having said that I would not hesitate to go back with friends and family for food and drinks."

"I've been wanting to go here for years because I love cheese just as much as the next person. We travelled over an hour to get there and pre booked our table during the week for Sunday. It didn't start well, the lady couldn't find our reservation and made us feel like she was annoyed at us, another server had to come over and find it, we got seated with out backs to the rest of the restaurant, didn't get told about any specials, had to ask for clean cutlery and didn't get an apology for it being dirty in the first place. We ordered our food and drinks, our food came and then they decided to go make the blackcurrant squash my partner ordered but they only brought a half pint out rather than the pint he asked for. I was about 3/4 the through my meal when my coffee finally arrived, again with no apology for it being so late. I ordered the sausage and mash and it was a bit bland, nothing really special about it, however my partner did enjoy his Sunday roast. We had barely put our knives and forks down before they were taking the dishes away whilst asking if we were finished. We were asked if we wanted anything else but we could barely finish answering before the server said, just the bill then. The bill came much faster than our drinks however it was wrong, so had to get that corrected. From walking in the door of the restaurant to walking out was less than 40 mins, we felt rushed and like we were interrupting their day and being an inconvenience by being paying customers. If you're travelling to visit the cheese factory, I'd recommend going into Hawes to find something to eat and avoiding Calverts restaurant all together."

"On arrival in the Dales we tried at about 6pm to get a meal at the the Rose and Crown but were told that they were fully booked. Fair enough, so we booked for 8pm the following evening. We arrived at 7.55 but were told that the restaurant was closed. If we found a table they would take our order. The table was not very clean which was a reflection of the whole place. They took our order 3 Hunters chicken, one with chips only and 1 large Yorkshire Pudding with pork filling. This seemed to cause some confusion as they asked several times about the Hunters chicken requirement. We were surprised that an establishment of that size couldn't supply sparkling water when we tried to order the drinks. The drinks arrived fairly quickly. The meals 3 out of the 4 started arriving after an hour and a quarter at 9.15. but we had no cutlery which, when asked for, were unceremoniously put in a pile on the table. We were told not to touch the plates as they were hot. They were cold as was the food on them. The chips were dark brown and chewy as if they had been reheated and were cold. The chicken was cold. The Yorkshire pudding was like leather and the contents were barely warm as were the boiled potatoes accompanying them. The 4th meal Hunters chicken with chips only never arrived . When we complained that the food was cold. it was snatched away without apology. After another 10 minutes of not seeing anyone, we walked out, prepared to go without a meal that evening rather than pay top prices for reheated poor quality meals. The 4 different staff we saw were reasonably friendly but didn't seem to be in control of the situation. We will not go there again. It is the only pub or restaurant in the village and is letting down all the local holiday facilities who must find it difficult to recommend it."
