"Myself my mother and family went here on Mother’s Day. I think the only place without a Mother’s Day menu. We opted for Sunday lunch anyways and had starters. Upon arrival we were told to go the bar, the lady couldn’t at all serve us as one family, it had to all be individually, couldn’t split the bill, and was a very unusual way of welcoming your customers. The lady seemed very rushed for having two tickets on the bar and seemed a little overwhelmed by 6 people ordering. When we wanted more drinks we had to go to the bar, which again is unusual we had to pay there and then. When we ordered more drinks, we had to spell out the drinks we wanted, I.e the young blond lady couldn’t spell Zinfandel Rose. There was also very limited drinks not that we were given a drinks menu at all. The prawn cocktails did not have any sauce when asked for more we were given a very small pot the size of a bottle lid for four people! We also had to ask for butter with the bread. Ontop was a pointless bit of garden weeds. Otherwise you can’t really mess up prawn cocktail, the little additional sauce we got was nice. For mains meals the main person of the day, received her food stone cold! It had to be sent back. One person asked for no cauliflower and to have extra veg instead. Unfortunately this person ended up getting neither. I love my veg al dente but this veg was pretty hard. Had the food of been hot and cooked throughly we would have loved it as the meat was lovley’ The person who chose turkey and chicken only got turkey. Appreciate these are similar but t average person can tell the difference. We then realised we hadn’t even been given cutlery for our mains. Overall it was a devastating poor experience as we choice here as we always came as kids with our family and grandparents. We likley won’t return. Unfortunately we had a similar experience at the Pennyweight who are owned by the same people. The way Sunday lunches are cooked at both places appear to be well in advanced so everything is left to go cold, it was quite “stingey” is perhaps the best word. The small things which cost the least seem to be the biggest problems, such as veg, sauces/condiments and salad. Overall. It’s lost its feel, warmth and comfort. We did not really complain as you shouldn’t have too, it creates an atmosphere for the rest of the meal and we just wanted to enjoy Mother’s Day. There are some major but minor improvements that could make for a better experience. Our experience is kin to others experiences and it just seems they aren’t improving on them."

"We arrived soaking wet during a heavy rainfall and after I enquired regarding the availability of a table was answered by a petite dark haired woman (a member of staff who needs customer focused training), who informed me in an extremely curt and abrupt manner...that, “if you notice I am about to clear and clean that table.” I hadn’t noticed and as she didn’t have any cleaning materials in her hand at the time was rather confused, up but we waited patiently whilst she eventually cleared and cleaned. Later the same member of staff came to take our order, again in a curt manner. When she returned with an incorrect order her reaction was that it was our fault that she had confused the order and she flounced off without a word of apology. Another member of staff delivered our tea cakes and then our coffees arrived and were again delivered by the original member of staff with what I can only describe as a reluctant and irritated manner. Maybe we were treated like this as the norm for that particular member of staff, maybe she had an ‘off day’ or was it because we were ignorant southerners who did not understand the ordering/paying system? Why the original member of staff bothers to work in the cafe is bizarre if she dislikes visitors and/or waiting at table? Maybe a job working behind the scenes would be more suitable for her? Whatever the reason for her manner it left a nasty taste in our mouths!"

"My partner and I during the Christmas period decided to take a trip across the Yorkshire Dales into the Wensleydale area and Aysgarth. We thought it be a good idea to seek something out to eat whilst we were at it. We found Yorebridge House and was interested by it's tasting menu and 3 AA rosette designation. The restaurant/hotel is located in a very quiet village called Bainbridge deep within the Dales. It is quite a drive to get there but it was ultimately worth it and one of the nicest meals we have both had in 2023. Upon arrival we were met with very friendly staff and an absolutely beautiful venue. The colour choices, furniture and decor worked together to create a modern feel in an old building. Hidden alcoves revealed larger rooms and it was actually fun to look around to see what each room looked like. We were sat in the bar for a drink and the initial welcome canapes. The cocktails were great and canapé of beetroot jelly and tapioca were lovely. We were then seated in the main restaurant and began a culinary journey of six wonderful courses. The beef tea was fantastic, we didn't really know what to expect but it burst with flavour and was something I could easily drink a gallon of. The house bread was baked to absolute perfection and paired with the most incredible beef butter. Of all the restaurants I have eaten at with bread and butter courses, this sits at the top of the ladder. The first court of cured trout was complimented with a lovely watercress emulsion and a nice choice of caviar. The fish was meaty and flavoursome and was a great start. The pigeon course was unbelievably good with a lovely barbecued taste and very soft texture. It was cooked beautifully. We were served an interesting scallop course with hazelnuts and a lovely sauce. Scallops in these settings often tend to be raw so it was a welcome change. The venison was the nicest I have had with a wonderful beetroot puree. The desserts were great concluding with a lovely chocolatey mouse/tort paired with homemade ice creams. We of course ended with coffees (to help with the long drive home) and were treat to beautiful petit four of white chocolate and cardoman fudge. This was deep, flavoursome and out of this world. We also had a cross between a jelly sweet and Turkish delight with an intense bergamot flavour. Yorebridge House did an awful lot right from the friendly staff, beautiful venue and excellent food. I would only say that when the venison course was delivered, my partner was in the toilet and rather than bring it out upon her return, the plate was put on the table waiting for her return. I wouldn't have served dishes without everyone being present at the table. It is clear that Yorebridge aspires to obtain a Michelin Star and I don't doubt that it is possible. The food is very good and very fresh and well cooked and although we didn't spend the night in the rooms, judging from what we had seen that would likely have been excellent too. I think the only thing against it for a star is the location, I don't think the Michelin inspectors have the drive to go so far for it which is a shame! It was an overall very enjoyable night. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the restaurant and would gladly consider spending a night there. The only thing stopping a quick return is the distance."
