"UPDATE! We were eventually asked to come in for a complimentary meal now the new chef was up to speed. I am happy to say that things have significantly improved! I would now recommend. Worst food We have ever had. We took the mother-in-law for her 70th birthday at the end of last year. The place was freezing cold and the ceiling leaking. The food was shocking for the price we paid. We complained and were told that the head chef had left and that we would be invited back once things were “sorted”. We never received a call, not that we would go back."

"Upon arrival we were given a friendly greeting and told that, as it was the county show that day, it would be a bit loud that evening. No specifics were given. Certainly no warning as to what was to come. Loud amplified thumping music was played by the hotel in the pub/bar below us until 1am. This was not explained nor anticipated, since the website and booking listing had mentioned nothing about being a heaving pub until the early hours. The windows provided no insulation against the noise either, so we could hear every bit of noise from the beer garden outside the back too. Needless to say we didn’t sleep and were not happy the next morning. When I raised the issue with staff, I was sternly told that ‘we advertise ourself clearly as a pub on the website’ so we should expect noise. Yet there is no such warning on the website, nor were we informed during the booking process that it would be impossible to sleep until 1am. This is misleading and dishonest. Avoid avoid avoid. We will be making a formal complaint and asking for a full refund; the basic expectation of a hotel is that it is a place to sleep. A shame since the location is great and the room was clean."

"This place is truly a hidden gem. It's quirky and charming, with an extensive menu that has something for everyone. The food is delicious, and the staff is wonderful. We started with the sticky chicken pudding, which may be the best I've ever had, along with the black pudding and haggis fritters, which were fantastic. For main courses, I had the gnocchi with spinach, while my mother enjoyed the chicken, leek, and mushroom cake, which was amazing. For dessert, we shared the tablet bakery sundae, featuring chocolate brownie, caramel shortcake, and flapjack – absolutely delicious! I can't wait to return and try more of the menu. I highly recommend this place, and it's also dog-friendly!"

"last minute we booked a table when we arrived in the opposite and had a nice experience from beginning to end. from the reception at the door through the inviting owner, to amazing service throughout. the menu was really good, although this was a difficult thing to decide what was to choose, so the four of us choose different meal times, so we share and try to visit some of them! beautiful decor and great atmosphere will make a point of resumption if we are happy enough to visit this opposite again."

"The Royal Oak Paley Street Maidenhead is our destination, we 've been told it 's a journey worth making. We head off the M4 and the SatNav indicates it 's close. A final right turn prompts the navigation to confidently announce 'you have arrived at your destination '. Err, no, we have arrived at a farm; we turn the car around. First tip then for The Royal Oak Paley Street, it 's not actually on Paley Street it seems, rather, 200 yards beyond; no matter. Visitors might also note that there are over 600 Royal Oak pubs in the UK making it the second most popular pub name after the Red Lion whose numbers exceed 700 so if you are planning a visit, do make sure you get the right one. At least we got that bit right. What differentiates this Royal Oak from all the others however is that Dominic Chapman @DomChapman is in the kitchen. Due to his endeavours, The Royal Oak Paley Street boasts a Michelin star and 3 AA Rosettes. Their website tells us that only two pub-restaurants in the country"

"the authentic Caribbean atmosphere. The jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender, with a nice kick of heat. The plantains were crispy and delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a taste of Jamaica in the heart of the city."

"I was treated to lunch here by my daughter and son in law and loved it. I made a good choice with Mongolian Prawns to start, they were delicious. Son in law loved the Pakora then had the Chicken Cordon Blue. It looked amazing. My wife, daughter and I had the Roast Beef. It was superb. My Grandson had the Chicken Goujons and he loved them too. His little brother had macaroni cheese. We were all full but managed desserts. Ice Cream, Meringue and Chocolate Brownies. Cruzcampo was had too. Everything was first class but a special mention for Stephen (not sure about the spelling) As a host he was terrific and went above and beyond with service and entertainment and to top everything we got a quick look inside the stadium. The menu changes regularly so it won't be too long till we're back again at this fantastic restaurant. Honestly 10 out of 10. Meal type: Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Staff couldn’t have been more attentive and welcoming. Food was lovely and a good varied choice with reasonable prices. I don’t drink tea or coffee so nice to see some different (and local) juices out with the ordinary coke, lemonade etc. Hopefully you’ll add a chai latte to the menu sometime. Great addition to Keith and Mid Street"

"I had a rather stressful lunch experience. I picked up two kids' lunch boxes but discovered there were no sandwiches inside, so I assumed they were made at the counter. When I got to the till, I learned that I had to pick them up from a separate fridge at the entrance, which had a very limited selection (only cheese sandwiches left). This meant I had to leave the queue to get the sandwiches and then rejoin the end of the line. There were no signs indicating where to find the sandwiches, and the food displays were mostly empty with no hot food available. I eventually left the queue to see if I had overlooked something regarding where to find the food. Overall, it felt chaotic, with too many people and very few food options."

"Fantastic place. Food was lovely, service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxing. The interior was really nice and homely, with an open fire. A good selection on the menu with some great classic pub dishes. We had the fish and chips, gourmet steak burger, and the homemade macaroni and cheese. They were all really nice and would recommend any of them. Proper old style pub chips as well! For dessert we had a cinnamon and apple crumble, and a chocolate fudge cake, which again were both very nice. We would definitely come back again if we're in the area and would recommend a visit! "We had a meal last Friday at the steak house in town, and didn’t have a good experience. I left a detailed review on their Facebook page to warn others about it and it appears it’s gone! Can’t see how that’s fair as it was...a fair warning to anyone going. Makes me wonder how many bad reviews have been removed. Would give a lot fairer outlook and how overpriced and unprofessional they are! This wouldn’t be as bad if it hadn’t cost so much, as I’d happily pay for a brilliant meal, but the fact this is a steak house with high prices, you expect a certain standard. In brief, Aimees steak was well over cooked, so told the waiter, who comes back and claims the steak continues to cook after it’s been rested!!! Hillarious that the chef thought that was true, being a steak house they need to be nailing every steak perfect especially at their prices! So anyway, told the waiter that wasn’t the case and I’m well experienced in cooking steak, but he claimed that was still the fact. And instead of discounting our meal for aimees half eaten steak, they offered a free drink! Also the seafood we had with it was over cooked and dry, muscled were terrible, as was the langoustines, and tasteless. Didn’t get any recompense for that. My meal was fine, I had a ribeye and was cooked bang on, maybe ribeyes don’t cook themselves after they’ve been rested And as for charging each for their sides, on top of their expensive meal, bit of a **** take! And one of Aimees gins was advertised contained ginger fever tree and was to cost but they added the mixer on top of the And then on our way out, after I grudgingly paid for the meal (which wouldn’t be that bad if it was a nice dining experience), a member of the kitchen staff looked Aimee up and down in disgust, obviously annoyed at HER for HIM doing a poor job of cooking the food. We will never be back and if they’re deleting reviews, they could be a lot worse as just this experience. Edit: I’d like to point out I put this review on the page to warn others and also allow the business to take some criticism, the customer is always right and all that. Removing the review has just annoyed me, that’s why I’ve made this post."

"As a teenager, well before the Eurostar existed, I much preferred travelling by train. The French family who used to host me every year were kind enough to help me travel from Norfolk to Chambery in Savoie that way. My own parents would put me on the boat train in London and Monsieur met me as I arrived in Paris. We then travelled to the French Alps by couchette – strange bunk beds with sliding wood partitions to provide privacy. In Paris, before our overnight trek, we used to stop at Le Train Bleu, a stunning brasserie in Gare de Lyon. I was more than a little impressionable – the decor, the food and the service were something I’d never experienced in the UK. we did eat out fairly regularly both in London and East Anglia, the height of sophistication for me at the time was dining at The Swan in Lavenham or being treated to a fondue at the Swiss Centre in Leicester Square. If anything like Le Train Bleu existed in the UK train station, I certainly didn’t go there."

"we booked a table and was aware it was mother's day so there might be a delay but from the start the staff dragged there feet. once seated it took 20 minutes to get menu's and a further 20 odd minutes to receive our drinks and to be honest the restaurant wasnt even full so i dont understand the issue. some of our group ordered starters which finally came around an hour later which considering it was soup seems a bit long after an hour and a half when we asked how long we were told 5 minutes 15 minutes later the manger informed us that apparently today was a 2 and a half hour sitting but when we phoned and booked no one told us this after 1 hour and 40 minutes we had enough theres were 2 tables that came in befor us and still hadnt received there main meals so the chance of us getting our meals soon were slim. if when booking or even arriving at the restaurant if we were told it was a 2 and a half hour sitting we would not have stayed as we had other plans spoken to the manager who did give us an apology but we wont be back and it runied out night as we then had to rush to make our other plans and go hungry! would not recommend."

"Very rude staff! My husband and I sat outside today as it was a sunny afternoon. He went in to buy the drinks. I was driving so drinking zero beer. After a while, I went in to use the loo. The two young girls behind the bar asked if they could help and I politely explained I was outside and just wanted to use the toilet. One of the girls replied Whatever! in an obnoxious tone. I was utterly taken aback. A more mature woman who I assumed was in charge was sitting at the bar on her phone. She must have heard it but said nothing! The cheeky girl then gave me an impudent smile when she came outside to collect glasses. If you can 't be polite to customers, get another job!! Won 't be back.. place was quiet so that tells a story in itself on a sunny Saturday in August."

"This is a nice cafe with lovely cakes but I was so disappointed today. I had a croissant which was split open and covered with grated cheese and only noticed after a few mouthfuls that I was eating a croissant that was uncooked apart from the outer layer. I felt annoyed that someone in the kitchen would split it, see it was just dough in the middle but serve it to me anyway. I got an apology but felt sickened. Just not good enough!"

"I went to this restaurant for dinner one evening on the recommendation of Keith while staying at The Court House. It was a bit hard to find at first because the sign at the entrance was partially covered by trees, but once I found it, I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, had a good menu, and was reasonably priced. The young ladies working behind the bar were pleasant and friendly. Despite the fact that all food is cooked to order, we didn't have to wait long for our meals. When the food arrived, it was piping hot, well presented, plentiful, and delicious. I would definitely eat here again if I was in the area."

"this is a nice neighborhood pub that a welcome reize during our day to foot along the water of leith. the kinleith mill is immediately visible, as a step away from the flow path is, and it was great to see people who enjoy a more common in the sun. we decided to sit down as we wanted to eat and drink. we were a group of four friends and were quickly visited by the friendly bartender. we all ordered a sandwich with chips and a selection of pints to wash it. pints were cold and refreshing, really nice when a little expensive. the sandwiches also tasted good. high quality ingredients, good value and a beautiful atmosphere in which they enjoy. the place was busy on this Saturday afternoon, with many regular sitting in the bar with their drinks, but also many people for lunch. it is easy to see why, with the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful eating in the offer. I'm not sure how many times I'll be out here, but I'll definitely be back in when I'm recommended."

"Our Christmas meal with work colleagues was held at a wonderful location with great decor. The upstairs area was perfect for our party. The food was delicious, but the only downside was that the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed serving both floors, causing us to feel occasionally forgotten. Despite this, we still had an enjoyable night."
