"I visited De Rougemont Manor on Wednesday the 28th of February for Afternoon Tea to celebrate my mum and aunts birthday. When the food was presented to us the crisps to me looked as if they had either been broken or it was at the end of the packet some of the sandwiches were dry and also the cakes had dried out from where I believe they had been cut too early. As a party of five adults and two children we had to keep asking for refills (cheese, jam etc) as we wasn't asked if we needed anything else, we was never asked once if we needed our tea or coffee replenished. I appreciate it may of been short staffed that day due to the weather (it was snowing on and off) as there only seemed to be one member of staff working in the bar/restaurant. I feel really disappointed that the day was ruined by this as it was meant to be a nice get together for joint birthday celebrations. Also I have contacted the hotel and have not had any response back from them which again is awful customer service. All in all I will not be returning unless things are thoroughly improved and what should of been a lovely day celebrating was not."

Great value afternoon tea for a group of ladies. The staff were very helpful and we had plenty of choice, the cakes were naughty but nice!

We had a great experience at this restaurant for our afternoon tea. Brenda, our waitress, was very efficient and went above and beyond to accommodate us. We enjoyed plenty of delicious sandwiches, beautiful cakes, and hot scones, all served with tea, coffee, and any other drink we desired. The setting was perfect and we had a lovely afternoon. Thank you.

I was really disappointed with the afternoon tea bought as a groupon deal at £16.95 per head!! For that price I would have expected better fillings than 1 finger each of cheese Tom, Ham, egg mayo Tuna sandwich’s. There were 6 small cakes and 2 scones each. They replenished the tea when you wanted and also give you a doggy bag to take home if you have anything left. Pleasant couple of hours, but the sandwiches were a let down . I don’t think I would pay almost £34 again. View menu

A little disappointed compared to other afternoon teas I have enjoyed. Venue is lovely. Great open fire in. Main bar area. But the room where we had our tea was cold and lacked atmosphere and could have done with a little background music. On to the food. OK we were not offered a glass of bubbly which was a bit of a let down. Coffee was really good. Not offered choice of cream or milk had to ask, it's the little things that make a difference! Sandwiches were very dry and the selection was odd. Turkey sandwiches three days after Xmas really? Cakes were OK not fab

Good value afternoon tea for a group of girls. The waitress was very attentive the cakes were lovely. The only thing that let this down is the quality of the sandwiches. They had clearly been hanging around for a while possibly uncovered as they were quite dry starting to go crusty, although we did ask them to be replenished the 2nd batch was much fresher(probably made to order as they took a while coming out). Fillings were fine but to be honest I've never had cheese pickle in an afternoon tea before. The setting was lovely we then carried on our get together on the terrace overlooking the garden.

I took my mother out for Afternoon Tea, but unfortunately, we were disappointed and won't be returning. The sandwiches lacked variety and were more like thick doorstops with crusts left on. Some of the scones were extremely hard, making it difficult to eat. We were told they were using different bread suppliers as an excuse for the poor quality, but I suspect the chef simply didn't know how to make proper finger sandwiches. It was surprising to find that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Overall, it was not worth the money. If you enjoy thick sandwiches, then this may be the place for you, but otherwise, I would not recommend wasting your money here. View menu

The room looked beautiful and my husband and I enjoyed a drink in the Champers Bar waiting for my cousin and her husband to arrive. She was visiting from Australia and I’ve not seen her for about 50 years this afternoon tea was my treat for them. Apart from us there was just one other table with two guests occupied. What a disappointment when the food arrived! The little rectangular sandwiches looked like they had been unwrapped and put on the plate. There was no variety of cakes like I’ve seen in some of the reviewers’ photos. It looked like a brownie or two had been cut into smaller pieces and iced. The scones were ok. We had to wait a long time for extra hot water when requested. When we...

This afternoon tea experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, we were presented with a selection of teas and a stand of sandwiches, cakes, and scones. However, the waiter simply placed the stand on our table without providing any explanation of the offerings. The sandwiches were lackluster and appeared to have been left out, resulting in them being dry and starting to curl. The variety included thin ham with a touch of mustard, egg, cheese and tomato, and tuna - a disappointing lack of more premium options like salmon or smoked salmon. The cakes were also dry and unremarkable, with the so-called fancy treats failing to impress. The saving grace was the warm and freshly baked scones. The sta...

"We used to go to Whittaker's every weekend when visiting Brentwood, and used to recommend it ,it was always expensive, but it was good food and good service, but for the last few months it is going down hill fast! As soon as you go in now ,and...eventually noticed,we are told it will be ,or minutes wait for food,at this point many customers leave. This has happened every time we visit,so we ordered coffee, when we would have ordered food for four people, well we waited, and waited, for a coffee ,after twenty minutes I went up to the kitchen, and was told it's coming, where from Brazil!!!!!! And then nothing! Caught a waitresses eye and asked again, then we got it,and then told if we were not eating could we be quicker as there were people waiting!!!!! Anyone sitting down was told it was a long wait,so most left! That's money walking out the door! And they didn't seem to care! We discovered the reason for this terrible service,a buy came in with a massive deliveroo bag and left after ten minutes with a massive bag of food, they are now doing delivery and making the deliveroo a priority !!!!! They might think they are making a good living out of this, but the people actually there are money too! And paying extra for the privelidge of eating in. It cost more to eat i than take out! And the last time we were there, they lost our custom,so that was four,we saw another three leave,a other group of four,a couple, and that's customers ,and the as thing was no one from Whittaker's asked the people why they were going,or attempt to sort the problem out. We were sitting by the door and as it opened other customers were calling out don't bother again no staff were Interested. This cafe is packed in , more and more tables, with no room to get up or down from your table without backing Into other people, and nearly sitting on their laps. Not going back ,now they are doing deliveroo, actual customers who want to eat,are getting a very poor service. They have lost our custom for good,"
