"I used to frequent this place without incident by myself. the younger staff are great but the older staff look down their noses at me and my daughter Saskia. Saskia has extra needs her food needs to be cut up small to prevent choking and she has mayo with everything. They have small sachets and they begrudgingly give more than 2 sachets. The staff were overheard slagging me off in the kitchen regarding said mayo sachets on our last visit. They rolled their eyes when I asked for crusts to be removed. I didn’t dare ask for food to be cut up small too!. In short I said I wouldn’t be back and one lady said that it was a good idea that I didn’t! Disgusting!"

Popped in after visiting National Trust property. The food drinks were ok but nothing to write home about. The staff were helpful pleasant but I found the place a bit dated.

Ate here at lunchtime today. My ham sandwich was delicious. My wife's vegetable soup was hearty and filling. The tea was hot and plentiful, and the trifle for afters was outstanding.

Charming tearoom with excellent home baking and friendly service. Wide range of cakes and tray bakes, fresh sandwiches toasties. Very reasonably priced oh and they are dog friendly too. Their scones are IMMENSELY good!!

A lot of obviously regular diners were lunching, the friendly waitresses knew their personal favourites. The choice for food was excellent, and the display of cakes amazing. I can recommend the sticky toffee pudding with custard! View menu

Nipped in for a quick bite to eat. Clean and tidy traditional cafe. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Value for money toastie with a lovely fresh side salad and coleslaw. Very popular across lunchtime. Would definitely revisit

There’s a particular middle aged, blonde haired waitress I’d like to give a mention to.She is the most unpleasant and rude one I’ve came across in a while. If she was there when I left I was going to have a word and see what the problem was.Anyway, the younger 2 are lovely.Dry scones, bland soup and an average toastie.I’d give this place a miss.We will not return.

Lashing down with rain we popped in here for a quick drink before heading home, found a seat, and our order was taken quickly. Then we sat and waited it was a good 15 to 20 mins for our americano and hot chocolate to arrive, which i thought was rather exsessive for 2 simple drinks, it would have been understandable if the cafe was full but there lots of empty tables, there was also a mix up and a milky coffee came aswel, which we hadnt ordered. The drinks were nice and the staff were pleasant, but we had to gulp them down and still leave some as the car ticket was up. View menu

Visited on successive days. Lovely old fashioned English tea rooms. 1st visit we just had a pot of tea for two served almost immediately. 2nd visits we had the same but my wife a chocolate chip cookie and I had a chocolate éclair. Both were home made and both were delicious and then some! The éclair especially as it was chock full of fresh cream not that rubbish squirty stuff from a can! The éclair was about the size of my hand as well! The total bill for tea for two and the two treats ? £5.80!!! Incredible value. Spotlessly clean venue and very attentive and friendly staff.

Lovely selection on the menu from breakfasts and light lunches to afternoon tea. Everything is freshly prepared and served very quickly which was great as we had limited parking on the street . We took cakes and scones out for later as we were too full after our delicious fresh ham salads. All the meals can be eaten in or take out and also tables can be booked. Lovely staff and dog friendly too, with a relaxing patio for outdoor dining in summer, there 's a lovely atmosphere in this quaint and bright little gem of a place ....definitely our 'go to 'place when were in Cockermouth.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
