"Please note this is my first review of a restaurant ever but I was moved to write one on this particular occasion. We dined last night at this restaurant with our son and daughter and had such an awful experience. We live in Collioure, originally...from Scotland and travel to carcassonne a number of times a year for the last years ... we stay in La Cité and always make a point of dining at this restaurant as we have enjoyed the food.... we have taken family and friends to celebrate special occasions too. We had made our reservation a number of weeks ago, when we turned up the staff couldn’t find our booking, and were very irritated, so no welcome of any sort... we attempted to show them the reminder txt we had in fact that morning to confirm our booking but they didn’t want to look at it....they told us to go and sit at a table, not shown to table by staff, the table was at the entrance of the restaurant and one of the chairs was overhanging the entrance stairs, so if you moved out at all you would have fallen down the stairs. We politely asked if we could move to another of the empty tables, staff just said no as booked. We attempted to sit at table but I was not happy that one of us would forget ourself and fall down the stairs... with no polite service, staff shouted at us across the restaurant to say we could move as the other customers were late anyway... we thought ok not the best start but let’s move on... we noted that people did turn up mins after our arrival as the reservation who easily sat at the table by the entrance with no risk of falling down the stairs... The staff who waited on us were very short abrupt from the start... we ordered a bottle champagne as our first chance to escape and process a difficult few months with the loss of my mother over the lockdown period.. we were not served this, but had to pour for ourselves all night (not a big deal, but not what you expect for the money .. we were never offered any water, or more drinks for kids the rest of our stay... we waited over hours for our main courses and asked the waiter at this point where our food was as the restaurant was now emptying... he didn’t reply or apologise, but suddenly appeared with our food... at this point our daughter had finished her main course hours earlier and the plate was still sitting there... as were all the empty glasses... no attempt to clear or come near our table to provide any service... my husband and son love the cassoulet and they still enjoyed despite the long wait... I asked the waiter at this point if there was a problem and he made a face and didn’t reply! We had wanted to order desserts and our daughter had already ordered from the kids set menu but we were all very isolated badly treated upset that we decided we didn’t wish to be insulted further. The owner had spoke to us when we moved table to call our daughter a princess and was very attentive to many more tables, perhaps friends more regular customers than ourselves. The waitress didn’t make any eye contact and left the bill sitting at the edge of table for my year old daughter, no indication to ask if we had enjoyed our meal as we would have expected from a good quality restaurant. We paid the euro bill and I then called to speak to the owner to explain how annoyed upset we were at such poor service which was delivered with lack of interest abruptness. The owner was not interested in hearing anything and we left feeling we will never return to this restaurant and would advise other foreign visitors to not dine here if the staff are temperamental about which customers they provide better good service too or easily take exception to particular customers. This is a factual account of our evening dining at this restaurant. There are plenty of other great restaurants in La Cite and in the wider Carcassonne area... we will be dining in those in future!"

The food was very nice, particularly the cassoulet. The price is right for the location and quality. The service could be improved.

Quality food and good wine at a price that was a tad over the top given that there are similar places nearby. The staff could do with not thinking that this is a five star establishment and try some good customer care.

The lunch menu included delicious vegan options. The courses were sophisticated and made with very fresh ingredients and seasonal vegetables of very high quality. We appreciate the excellent service with attentive and professional staff, the waiter advise us on excellent wines describing the various options...with competence.

Lovely to find a non-traditional restaurant in the middle of the historic Cité in Carcassonne where the owners clearly care about their food. The menu is innovative, the food well presented, the patio is pretty and the tables laid out in an a attractive, modern...way. The owners and waiter were charming. We would definitely recommend this place.

We came here on the advice of our hotel last night and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We spent the previous nights in Paris and nothing we had compared. The holiday special dish of turbot in risotto...was amazing. The staff are super friendly and helped us pick an amazing white wine. I would highly recommend a visit if in Carcassonne.

I don't know if we were unlucky because there was a big group in at the same time as us but this was the quickest course meal I've had. Within minutes of ordering our starter was served and within minutes of finishing the starter...our main course was served. We were in and out in minutes, which is fine if you have somewhere to rush to but you just won't. The food itself wasn't that tasty but very expensive.

We stopped off in Carcassonne on our way home to Nice and, looking at the guide Michelin, had tried to book a dinner table at Comte Roger on line, unsuccessfully. So while in the old town we dropped by and asked whether there was room,...and surprisingly there was. We had read the reviews, good and bad, but decided the menu was interesting and worth trying. It was superb! The entrees were fine, mine, foie gras poêlé, quite wonderful, my magret de canard excellent, perfectly cooked with a cherry reduction sauce, and my partner's fish soup incredibly redolent and a marvel of rich tastes. The wine list is heavily local but good. Truly a very fine evening!

We have been visiting Comte Roger for many years now, certainly our favourite restaurant in Carcassonne and a cut above most others. We were lucky to get back to Carcassonne in July and we made the most of our time with a few visits...to Comte Roger, with friends as well as just the two of us. The menu is shorter than it used to be but we had plenty of choice. The magret de canard was delicious, as was the monkfish. On a cooler evening my husband had the cassoulet which was as good as ever. The puddings at Comte Roger are always delicious, I can recommend the biscuit with liquorice ice cream. Service was great and friendly. Pierre and Sylvie are so welcoming and friendly and take the time to...
