"I wanted to try this place after reading such rave reviews as I thought I might be missing something special so called in here to give it a go.. I have to say we were warmly welcomed and the staff were lovely and very efficient...indeed as the food arrived pretty quickly after placing our order.. Although the food was nice and everything was fresh it was not the amazing experience I was expecting after reading other glowing reviews, I would also add the coffee was good but the bottled beer was very expensive. The place is also quite small with low ceilings and can get noisy as clearly demonstrated by the irritating gobby guy dressed in overalls that kept coming in talking loudly to the girl behind the counter and you could hear nothing but his big mouth throughout the place and would have been delighted to have shut it for him to get some peace and quite.. I cannot really say anything negative about the quality of the food or the service but it just did not live up to my expectations."

"Excellent breakfast buffet both cooked and continental with a view of the Thames. I especially liked the coconut Bircher muesli. Vegetarian options: I didn’t see anything explicitly labelled vegetarian or vegan (eg vegetarian sausages) but there were plenty of options (such as smoothies, fruit, nuts, muesli, cooked mushrooms/tomatoes/hash browns/eggs). We were asked about dietary requirements on arrival so it’s likely they would provide something appropriate if asked. "The food at this restaurant was excellent, and it had been a long time since my last visit. The quality and standards are still wonderful! I started with the ham hock terrine and had the lasagne for my main course, both were delicious and full of flavor. We were too full to order dessert as we indulged too much. This place is perfect for when you don't feel like cooking on a Sunday, and we will definitely be returning once we've recovered from our food coma. The customer service was provided by a lovely group of young people. Overall, it was a great experience! Thank you, Red Lion Thorpe x."

"On holiday from New Zealand and had lunch with a friend here on Thursday.We we're served by Emily, who was totally amazing,great fun,and made excellent recommendations. Nothing was a bother, the food was outstanding, really well presented,and came in a timely fashion. I can really recommend the shrimp cocktail, which echoed back to the 1970's, and the banooffee pie was divine.A truly lovely experience all round and will highly recommend to all and sundry. Lovely quaint English pub.with Fabulous staff."
