"THE BEST FOOD EVER. By the off chance we decided to go to this little old pub for a bite to it, but they weren’t serving food, so we sat for a drink, but Graham kindly asked if we would like some bog pie what a legend he is. It is honestly the best food I’ve ever ate, in a lovely lovely lovely little traditional pub. Two beautiful dogs by the fire, cosy atmosphere and the most amazing service. Down to earth and so welcoming. 10 out of 10 out of this world."

"We are here on Monday evening and had a delicious meal. Started with shared nachos and then I had a special of chicken breast with dauphinoise potatoes and hubby had the steak and ale pie. The chicken was moist and tasty and the dauphinoise and other vegetables were perfectly cooked and delicious. Gravy was served separately in a sauce boat! The pie was fantastic big flaky pastry crust on top of a pan filled to the top with big chunks of meat and mushrooms. So many times have been disappointed with poor fillings at other venues only a few pieces of meat swimming in gravy but this was exceptional! And tender too! Served with chunky fries and vegetables hubby couldn't finish them! We had a glass of wine each and hubby also had a pint. Came in at under £50 well worth it. Staff were great. Only negative was that it was a little chilly extremely cold night outside and we ate in quite a large room. Not a lot of people on a Monday in February! However, would recommend. There is outdoor seating overlooking the river which would be fab on a warm evening..."

"This was a meal for my wife's birthday and the only menu available is a £49.95 Table d'Hote with supplements. We enjoyed an excellent Cauliflower Cheese Veloute as an amuse bouche and we would love to have see this as a starter as it was that good. For starters we had the pigeon breast and pork terrine which were both very good and perfectly presented. For main my wife had a very good halibut with pea and crab fishcake whilst I ordered a medium rare Rib-eye at a £9 supplement. It came with a sweet pickle like substance which was a bit strange and not pleasant but the biggest problem was the steak was well-done. It was sent back and just as my wife finished her main the replacement arrived which I still wanted as I was hungry but as I tried to cut into it it was full of sinew and very rare. So we decided to give in after two attempts at cooking a steak . For desserts my blackberry panacotta with yogurt ice-cream which was very nice but my wife's pineapple tarte tatin was spoilt as the pastry was very over cooked and tough to eat. We felt very sorry for the serving staff as they were apologetic and gave us our wine free but as you can imagine the night was spoilt by the standard of the food."

"We dined at Josephine the two nights that we stayed at the castle. Reception was excellent. Our orders were taken, and we had drinks, in the medieval-themed drawing room. We were then taken to a sumptuous dining room that included intimate nook tables. Dinner began with a superb amuse bouche of cold pea soup with a perfect cube of tangy feta, and perfectly textured sourdough bread. Appetizers were perfectly seared scallops with a bit of crispy chicken for a sweetish contrast. My companion had beef carpaccio with herbed crust surrounded by fava beans. Our entrees were a succulent lamb dish, and goat cheese ricotta with shrimp, corn and mushroom jus. Dessert was a lemon tart with raspberries, and a cheese plate,served with candied walnuts, honeycomb, grapes and chutney. On the second night we began with foie gras and a luscious lobster risotto with green peas, then shared a perfectly cooked chateau briand with peppercorn sauce. Dessert was chocolate mousse with passion fruit curd ice cream, and a delectable dark chocolate mousse. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Part of the pleasure of dining here is the atmosphere of medieval finery. I'm delighted to say that the quality and inventiveness of the food is also up to excellent standards. The castle and restaurant provided two very memorable nights."

"Beautiful food, fantastic surrounding, we stayed in the castle so it was lovely to eat there as well, and to just walk back to our room after, we started in the drawing room with a drink while we browsed over the menu and was then taken to our table where we received a complementary amuse-Boucher . Followed by our starters main. I had the Butternut squash soup with goats cheese which was amazing and then the chicken for my main. The only thing disappointing was that we had to pay extra to have the pudding that we wanted and they add on their own tip on to the bill. Other than that it was a lovely relaxed enjoyable evening."
