"During our three-night stay, we dined at the restaurant on our first night. Not overly hungry, we opted for two starters each instead of a traditional starter and main course. Both of us started with the mushroom soup, which we found to be delicious. However, we were disappointed by the small portion size served in tiny bowls, especially considering the price of over £6. I mentioned this to the staff as constructive feedback, not as a complaint. For my main course, I enjoyed a smoked chicken Caesar salad with anchovies and cheese (no croutons), which was flavorful and satisfying. My friend ordered köfte kebabs with mint cucumber dressing and toasted pitta bread, which she also found to be delicious. The ambience was nice and the service was excellent even though the restaurant was busy. Overall, the meal was slightly marred by the small soup portion, but everything else was enjoyable."

Although we enjoy visiting The Golden Fleece..a beautiful place the food was very disappointing. The houmous lacked the cumin and was quite chunky.Risotto rice was equally stodgy with no flavour at all with a few pieces of butternut squash. The goats cheese was the only flavour. My husband however enjoyed all his courses..guess I picked the short straw.

My wife is an avid watcher of The Yorkshire Vet and I as a kid watched All Creatures Great And Small so a trip to Thirsk seemed like the thing to do. The Golden Fleece hotel is ideal for a stay in Thirsk with excellent rooms superb food and very friendly staff and a added bonus of its own car park.I would highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Thirsk. Less is less here. The vegetables are nothing but a token gesture a smear of leek which looks terrible on the plate similar to sick. Half teaspoon of soggy cabbage half teaspoon of lumpy tasteless swede of which could all fit on my fork together the fork for comparison and oh it was served to us cold Absolute rip off £16.95 Sunday Lunch. Tourist Trap sloppy service and sub par food

The staff at this restaurant were absolutely terrible. When we asked for our table to be wiped down because it was covered in milk, a very rude man from behind the bar told us to lift our drinks with no please and in a very abrupt manner. One couple had finished their very small portion of food before the other couple even got theirs. The food was expensive for the small portions we received, and the service was very poor.

The meal was enjoyable with delicious beef and Yorkshire puddings, but the vegetables were disappointing. I had requested them to be served separately, but they were mushy. Vegetables should have a slight crisp to them. Please go back to how they were prepared before. Our friends have had a similar experience as well. We are regular customers, visiting once a month for a long time. Please improve or you will lose customers, including us. View menu

Called in for lunch, but NEVER again. Ordered sandwiches, a round of chips and coffee. When it arrived there was very little filling, the bread was old and starting to go crisp with age. The round of chips at £3.95 was a total ripoff! 12 chips in a small container that were dry, and no doubt frozen ones! The coffee cups were just over half full, and for £3.75 i expected more. Plus the cups were very small. This has to be the worst place we’ve eaten, and was totally “fleeced” by the high prices. Utter disgrace.

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
