"This restaurant is one of my favorite places to dine. We typically visit about once a month, but hadn't been since December. Upon arrival, we noticed some changes, possibly new management. We had to wait a short 5 minutes as our table wasn't ready, which was understandable. However, it was a bit awkward to see others being moved on due to slow service. The menu was now a laminated A4 sheet, a departure from the usual fold-out printed menu, indicating more changes. The menu options were more limited, and we had to share one menu between the six of us. Unfortunately, we weren't given the vegetarian menu, which we later found on the website with more meat-free options. The starters took 40 minutes to arrive and were tasty. The mains took almost an hour, with varying portion sizes and ingredients in the salads. Some dishes like the parmos were excellent, while the beef stew was disappointing with thin gravy. We chose not to have desserts as we had been there for two hours and weren't sure how much longer we'd have to wait. The staff were pleasant and kept our drinks coming, but overall, the food and service weren't up to their usual standard. We may wait for reviews before deciding to return."

We waited nearly 40 minutes for our drinks to be served at our table. Then we had to shout over a waitress to take our orders for food. 1 hour later food arrived. Food very disappointing. Thought we would give the desserts ago maybe a bit better, ordered jam roly poly was stale left it all. Will certainly not be visiting here again

Menu seems a bit smaller and most of the vegetarian options are no longer available. I had the vegetable stir fry which wasn't great rice was overcooked to a pulp and the veg was tough and stringy. The sweet chilli sauce had a strong vinegar flavour. Partner had a classic parmo with fries and enjoyed the parmo part which was a decent size. View menu

The staff at this restaurant were very friendly and the food was incredible. I ordered the lunchtime parmo and my partner had the brisket roll. The parmo was the best I've had in a long time and the brisket literally melted in our mouths. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were also delicious. I would highly recommend this place.

Went here today as a family of 9, table was booked for 6pm straight in and seated. couldn’t fault anything. Food was amazing and will be back again as there are a lot of gluten free options on the menu. I have coeliac disease and was at ease and there was enough choice for everyone else. Prices were reasonable and the portions were really good.

We absolutely adore this pub, however, the only issue arises when we bring our dogs along. The back room, designated for dog-friendly guests, is consistently cold in the afternoons. The remainder of the pub is snug and inviting with a roaring fire. Unfortunately, dog owners are left shivering. We kindly request for the heating to be turned on for us dog lovers. View menu

Very disappointing. Very slow service. One starter forgotten and then one main course forgotten. Food cold and badly presented. Staff inattentive and chatting behind the bar, not watching the tables or noticing empty glasses! Such a pity. We have eaten here for years and suddenly it’s gone down hill. It used to be a really well run pub , known for its food and service. The first time in 17 years that we have not left a tip! Unfortunately, we won’t be back.

Having used the “Hammy” since the early 80’s having moved away and coming home to visit my elderly parents , I booked a table to take them for diner. Table was booked for 6:30 having ordered two starters as mains and Thai curry, we were still waiting for food at 19:30, I asked the waitress what the hold up was to be told we were at the back of the queue because of a large order, but she had no idea how long our order would be, only to be told by someone else it would be after 8pm. Poor service especially on such a small order. Very little in the way of an apology, only excuses. Menu isn’t what it was also.

"Visited this weekend for a family celebration and had an unremarkable experience. Decor of establishment was rather nice. Admittedly, we were a large booking of 17 individuals and this can be challenging to manage and organise for such a small establishment. The mature gentleman was rather rude to our host whom asked for an additional chair for the party as we were one short despite finalising numbers as agreed earlier in the afternoon. This is no way an appropriate manner to treat guests and clearly set a bad example for his staff as well as the wrong tone for the evening ahead. Guests were not even properly seated before being hounded for their drinks order despite not being given a drinks menu. Upon asking about cocktails to the waitress whom was pleasant she was unable to give the full selection just the three she knew of the top of her head that were the standard run of the mill selection. To give full credit to her fo honest regarding the diaquiries before we ordered them in. The cocktails (passion fruit martini and cosmopolitan's) ordered were disappointing as they tasted watered down and lacked a bang. Don't understand why one of the passion fruit martinis was brought out in a drinks glass which was rather random. Drinks orders were taken on an ad hoc basis with the waiting staff not taking a full tables order walking away as people attempted to give their drinks order, unintentional maybe? We were rushed to give our starters/mains orders all of which came promptly and all guests received the correct order. The waiting staff shouted out food orders from the top of the table to identify who's order was who's. The pasta based dishes were pleasantly enjoyed yet the pizzas and parmesans proved to be somewhat vanilla. Not all guests had properly finished eating their meals before the gentlemen asked if he could remove plates before receiving an answer from the full table resulting in some guests to not finish their meals. We were not offered a deserts menu once they removed dishes from the table. We had second hand embarrassment for an additional family party whom were having a celebration meal at the restaurant. The party had started to get settled at the table putting out their balloons etc when the mature gent stormed over barking at them to move as he shoved table and chairs across the restaurant. This clearly made them feel uncomfortable as was noticed and commented by the service users of the restaurant. The waiting staff plonked the celebration cakes on the table one of which didn't even go to the correct individual. NO SPECIAL MEMORY OR MAGICAL MOMENT TO BE HAD FOR A 18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. It would have been nice if they had asked before bringing it out as some of our party partially missed out on the occasion. The bill was given to the wrong individual instead of the host which allowed for everyone to see the bill when this was an private affair. To be perfectly honest we visited a few months earlier and had a disappointing experience but with better service. Linthorpe Road is bursting with alternative, superior, independent eateries that I would highly recommend instead."
