Small restaurant with a wide choice of Japanese food. Everything what we ordered was very tasty. Great Japanese food! A Japanese staff is very helpful. A reservation is recommended especially on weekends.

Wer über das etwas merkwürdige, sehr unjapanische Interieur hinwegsieht (war das Lokal in einem früheren Leben mal eine Pils-Kneipe?), wird mit einer großen Auswahl an ebenso authentischen wie sehr ordentlichen Gerichten belohnt. Und japanisches Bier gibt es tatsächlich frisch vom Fass.

The food is really nice but the portions are kind of small and just when we were starting to get into it, they ran out of rice for the evening. This was before 9 pm, bear in mind! We also thought that service was not great, in fact the waitress was kind of rude and looked down on us for asking for a fork. Yes, this may not be correct in Asia but we were in Frankfurt. Anyway, we would not hurry back as we left the place half empty and needed to find a sausage stall on the Zeil.

What can I say, one of the best sushi experiences in my 20 years of life. I had fried squid (I think) as a starter which was delicious. The other starter was a pickled fish with garlic, leek and soy sauce and I was truly speechless. It was a taste sensation. Now we come to the sushi, every bite was a taste experience and with every new maki or nigiri I almost cried because it tasted heavenly (not to exaggerate). The staff is very nice and the interior design makes me feel like I'm in Japan. If I'm in Frankfurt again, I'll definitely come back!

HIGEMATSU is certainly not a bad sushi shop and some dishes are very tasty and authentically Japanese. Unfortunately the ambience is below average. The previous location was a smoking bar and almost nothing was changed in the inventory. There is no Japanese atmosphere. The service is also not always customer friendly, which is very untypical for Japanese standards. Special requests are not taken into account or simply told is not possible. The namesake and owner of the pub is also not willing to accept changes to dishes that are outside of the menu. Therefore, Hgematsu is recommended to a limited extent.

If in Frankfurt and craving japanese food, this is the place to go! Whenever we need to go into the city, everyone already knows we have to stop here. Amazing japanese cuisine, authentic dishes and although the main dining room isn´t anything spectacular and windowless, we love it. There´s always a lunch special but at times you need to get there early or it´s out. There are plenty of great options on the menu though so you won´t leave hungry :)There is always complimentary green tea, something that hasn´t really been widely established in Germany, so it´s worth mentioning. If you happen to be in the area, this gem is truly worth a visit.
