"We just came back from 2 weeks in Chalus on a house hunt. We ate here 4 times and had quite good food on each occasion. It doesn’t profess to be ‘fine dining’ but the portions are big, the prices reasonable and the plates and crockery are clean! We liked the double cheese burger and chips (although the fish snd chips were also good). The rump steak was passable. I wouldn’t recommend eating inside as it’s a bit dark and depressing. The front terrace seemed to be where all the action takes place. It was slightly spoiled on two nights by a small groups (of Brits I am ashamed to say) who were loud and swearing having had too much to drink. Different group each night. It was just noise and high sports but they were both a bit over familiar with the waitress on one evening and I could see other customers felt uncomfortable as they were talking quite explicitly about sex and swearing a lot. The lad who served us was polite and attentive in fact they all were. The owner is also the chef and he comes out regularly for a chat. The place was not busy at all which is a shame. The prices are reasonable and we had no complaints. We recommend the double cheese burger and chips and a bottle of house white (nice wine)."

From the outside its simple looking and the menu is also simple. However, the price quality comparison is super, portions are more than adequate and overall we were very satisfied.

We walked a part of the Vezelay route from Limoge and had an overnight stop at David’s hotel. We had a wonderful stay and the dinner (fish chicken respectively) was superb. Sitting outside to have some wine and dinner was special.

Service assez rapide.Le plus, l'accueil ....

I would like to thank the restaurant staff because we ate there and it was delicious, the waitress who served us was very helpful and very kind. The food was delicious and well cooked as requested, plus we had very nice, full plates. I highly recommend going there if you are looking for a nice place with good food. In a quiet part of the city.

"We were delighted to see the Les Routiers sign as we drove into the village, having passed any number of restaurants that were shut, some looking to be of a permanent nature. You are always sure of getting a good meal in a Les Routiers restaurant, sometimes basic but always good. It was a Saturday and getting late for lunch but the place was still packed. Monsieur le patron greeted us as we walked in and sat us down at one of the long communal tables and a young lady, the only one serving and boy did she work hard, explained what was on offer. A four, yes four course menu starting with a buffet followed by a main, chosen from the menu on a board on the wall, then cheese and a dessert and all for 17.5e. All of it was excellent quality and I saw quite a number of people visiting the buffet a number of times, there appeared to be no restriction on how much you could have but in honesty, with everything else to come, one trip and a reasonable selection was more than enough. Our waitress had no English and poor as my French is, we still managed to have a bit of a laugh and I could help her out with another English couple who came in later. Good food, plenty of it and at a really good price and with friendly and cheerful service, what more do you want? Highly recommended. You probably know that Les Routiers started as recommended restaurants for truckers, the French equivalent of our transport cafés but far superior. Now the sign just indicates you will get a good meal at a reasonable price although that is a little different with their places in the UK. Lookout for a Les Routiers La Casserole in France because the food in these will blow you away."
