"An enjoyable experience of French rustic cuisine and a comfortable level of service that inspires confidence to return again and again.I have been working in France for alternate weeks over the last four months and moving between the rural communities, region to region, every other day or so. The proliferation of multi outlet food chains is very depressing and hard on the digestion so finding the 'Bonsejour' on the outskirts of Verdun for Lunch last Tuesday was a very bright spot. I and my two French colleagues enjoyed a light lunch (they had fresh pizza) and I had the local version of 'Flammkucken' all of which were cooked in the wood fired oven at the centre of the dining room. Fresh, well executed, good to look at and the aromas and flavours were excellent.Following this initial test we returned for dinner that evening and enjoyed excellent Moule Farci followed by Rump Steak, green salad and their own version of French Fries. The food was excellent and very well complemented by inexpensive but good quality wine by the glass, a VDP de Gascony white and a Cote de Blaye Bordeaux. The following day we completed our work just after 1:00pm and had to drive back through Verdun on the way to Calais and home so stopped again at the Bonsejour for Lunch. This time I had home made fresh pasta with scallops which was to the same high standard. The restaurant is clean and well run with pleasant unpretentious staff and has an atmosphere that is relaxing and enjoyable. It has restored my faith that this type of independent excellent regional and authentic restaurants still operate but you do have to be determined and lucky to find them amongst the ambient noise of the chains that have been allowed to dominate and then eradicate what is usually good French taste. I will be back to the Bonsejour for more and to congratulate its owner and staff for restoring my belief."

Really good pizza's, quick and really nice staff. English spoken. Open most days (except monday). Be sure to check if there's a table available, most of the time it is quite busy.

I was visiting my niece who is living around Verdun, this is her favourite restaurant. Everything is home made, service is quick and very good, prices are cheap...and the cooking is excellent.

This restaurant has an extensive menu and we only had pizzas as main courses. The Moules starter were lovely and I had the lightest Quiche ever. The pizzas were great and very large. Quite large quantities were packed up for us to take home by the helpful staff. This was not fine dining but everything was well presented well cooked and at a reasonable price. View menu

Came here based on apparent positive review from TripAdvisor. Ordered only 2 pizzas and a lasagne. Staff seems overwhelmed, stressed and not helpful. Waiting more than 1 hour with 2 young kids for the food to arrive, and eating reheated "supermarket bread" in the meantime. Overall bill far too expensive. Absolutely overrated! Avoid and cross the road to the Buffalo Grill; you will certainly be served faster and cheaper over there!

We came here based on TripAdvisor reviews on the quality of the pizzas as we were craving for pizzas and were somewhat disappointed. The base was too doughy and there was way too much cheese so it was incredibly oily and hard to digest. The balance of ingredients just didn't cut it for us.It was pretty darn pricey for what we ate. We also found the house wine disappointingly bad. Only the dessert was nice. The service was polite and friendly but the waiting time was long.

We picked this place while staying along the road at the Hotel Prunelia, mainly because we couldn't find anything else which was open and looked suitable for children. The staff had no English, which is part of the charm of rural France, so we got by using google translate to explain what a vegan eats. To their credit, although the waiter looked fairly dumbfounded at the concept, what I got was pretty good. The (veggie) kids got by with a veggie pizza as well which was good. Can't fault the wine either.Atmosphere was fine, it was pretty hot (no aircon) in the conservatory with a nice view of the road outside . . . View menu

Visited this restaurant after first checking their website before leaving to my trip to Verdun and afterwards I had dinner there for the two nights I spent in the city. The restaurant has a great, family atmosphere and the staff is very guest-friendly. They had full house both evenings. The first evening they couldn't seat me immediately (as I didn't have a reservation in advance) but asked me to stay in the bar area and offered a glass of wine. Immediately to observe is that the staff is going up and down amongst the tables, you don't see them hanging around. They check regurarly on the tables. The dishes are great, there are several menus which include a main dish, a glass of wine (differen...

Two of us started with Moules Marinierre. We got about 6 New Zealand Green lipped mussels cooked very similar to escargot with garlic butter. Delicious and plenty there for starters especially when you mop up the garlic butter with the French bread. The other 2 pals had soup of the day which was vegetable. It actually was potato and courgette and although one pal was a bit dubious about the courgette they both enjoyed the soup very much.I had to eat a traditional rustic French dish and opted for pig's trotters. One pal had them also. Roasted in the oven they came (3) on a wooden platter with a large round of potato which I think was Dauphinoise and green side salad. We both agreed the trotte...

"We arrived in Verdun on a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon some seven hours after leaving a 6.5c East Anglia. What we needed was a local friendly Bistro serving hearty and warming fare. What did we have recommended? A local friendly Bistro serving hearty and warming fare. Short menu I think around €25 for two courses we opened for the foie and home smoked salmon with a surcharge. Excellent. The home smoked salmon was an absolute delight. My main was leg of lamb served with haricot and carrot, with a side of delicious roast (burnished) potatoes* my wife opened for the shoulder of suckling pig with the roast potatoes served in a casserole. Both huge portions and utterly delicious. You could not have come up with a more fitting meal for a freezing cold night. I had a slab of cheese to follow and my wife the Isles Flottante. Again a knockout. With the extra items on top of the fixed price meal two glasses of champagne, three glasses of white and one glass of red we were into €85 Absolutely worth every penny. This is a family run Bistro real traditional local food and we were expertly steered by the staff. Such establishments really need your support. I’m happy go extend mine and we will go again on our way back from Greece. *for the Clog wearing reviewer purporting the potatoes were burnt they were roasted. Something it had probably not experienced previously."
