"Maier's is located by a narrow and winding alley, Steingasse, on the northern side of the river in the centre of Salzburg. It's a nice walking distance but makes you check the map a couple of times. Anyway the trip is worth the effort since you will find a charming and wellcoming small restaurant with a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The owners are chatting with customers and feels like they would know most of them. The menu is rather compact and main courses are focusing on beef. There are several types of beef, like filet, entrecote or rib eye, and everything can be ordered in different sizes. As a lighter alternative there is quail or vegetable risotto. We had the quail and a fillet steak which were both perfect. As dessert we took a chocolate cake and rasberry meringue, which were delicious, as one could already expect. It's difficult to say which is better in Maier's Gastro, the food or the atmosphere. Both of them are really good and that guarantees an unforgettable dinner experience."

We went here on our last evening in Salzburg after a 3,5 week long vacation in Italy and Austria, and this was the best food and wine on our hole trip. Perfect food, excellent austrian wine and service in world class. Do not miss this!!!

Best steak in town. Besides the delicious food, the service is excellent. I will definitely come back and can recommend it to anyone who wants a great gastronomy experience in Salzburg. Just keep in mind that it is not cheap one, but it is completely worth it.

Was in Salzburg on my own with work and was looking for a less touristy place to eat and came across this on TA. So glad I went here. Small, cosy, attentive staff. The scallop ceviche with lemon sorbet blew my mind, and the steak was so tender I could have cut it with a spoon. View menu

Small restaurant on foothills of Kapuzinerberg I believe owned by two brothers. Our ribeye was as tender as filet mignon while still having that rich, fatty bite you get from a ribeye. The way they tenderize is definitely interesting - something I want to try at home if I find further instruction elsewhere. Anyways, great place to get steak with friendly service.

I visited for dinner. It seems that local people love this place. Terrace was all booked so I sat inside, which was not a problem for me. I had a shrimp with caramelized watermelon(unique!) and rib eye steak. All were cooked well and I throughly enjoyed. Staff turned out to be very friendly and nice in the end and it is a pity that I could only come here once. It was a very cosy and nice dinner.

While it takes some looking on pedestrian Stein Gasse to find, the family Maiers' establishment is well worth the search. Intimate and friendly (6 tables outside) we enjoyed duck curry, elegantly seasoned seafood pasta and interesting starters. Limited menu that changes. If you want typical heavy Austrian fare, look elsewhere. If you want a memorable gourmet experience at a reasonable price, come here. View menu

this an very off the beaten path , non tourist restaurant that does not cater to tourists, but welcomes you warmly. the staff is very friendly and attentive, they are all family, and works with you to understand the german language menu, written on small chalkboards. very creative steak meals, not ruth chris but very good, and you choose the size of the steak you would like to have prepared. very good beef tartar, and fantastic beef carpachio. definitely worth the visit , especially to get away from the tourist crowd. small note- no kids menu, but as long as they will eat steak the restaurant welcomes them.

Maier's Gastro is amazing. The staff, the food, the wine, the ambience. Everything here was top notch. I received warm, sincere and friendly service. The wine selection was delicious. I had a lovely gruner veltliner followed by a remarkable Fritch Foggathal no 19. I ordered the beef tartare (I'm no connoisseur but it tasted incredible). I then ordered a 300g rib-eye steak which came with rosemary roast potatoes and green beans win smokey bacon. Wow. Just wow. Flavoursome and cooked to medium-rare perfection. It's rare for me to find a place where every element of the experience is enjoyable. Maier's is a definite winner. I felt really comfortable here as a solo diner too - something hard to...
