"Franco-Vietnamese couple from Saigon, district 4, who, during our wanderings in the center of this charming town of Auxerre, came across the aptly named restaurant Le Saïgon on rue du Nil. Looking at the map and seeing my wife's radiant smile, we pushed the door. And there, we were in Vietnam for a good meal. Good welcome from the waitress and especially the owner Mr Trinh with whom we spoke about Vietnam and his restaurant. We ordered an assortment of steamed starters which was perfect. Then we got down to business, with for my wife her daily dish a phở which was perfect, For my part I took a bò lúc lắc with a meat that had nothing to envy of that of my butcher, melting in the mouth. Fresh pineapple for dessert to finish this excellent meal. Then the owner kindly let me taste a Chablis from his cellar which was fabulous. We had a pleasant time, both culinary and nostalgic, in Saigon. We know where to eat when we return to Auxerre. Thank you for your welcome and your kindness."

Not that we don't love French food, but now and then you just need a blast of something else, preferably with chilli. This very busy neighbourhood restaurant was a delight. Not quite the same vietnamese dishes we are used to in Australia (and we are very familiar with asian cuisines) but really good! Ask for fresh chopped chilli.

Fantastic value weekday lunch menu and with the house wine also excellent value this was an impromptu lunch stop which turned into a real treat. The food was excellent, the atmosphere and service nice and we will certainly be thinking about returning for more. €32 for two for two courses including a bottle of wine, 1 house cocktail, 1 dessert and two coffees. Beat that! View menu

Some of the food was good, some was just ok, nothing was bad. It is very hard to eat Vietnamese food in France because they change things to suit the French palate and culture, but after days of French food, we need a change sometimes. The steamed dumplings were pretty good and tasted homemade. The Soupe Saigon, which should be Pho, wasn't very flavorful, certainly not like I've had elsewhere. No anise, no strong beef flavor, and it was a small bowl in the way the French serve soup. The Nem were not bad, but were precooked so they weren't hot, just warm. If you need a Vietnamese break, this is ok. Maybe even a bit better than just ok.
