"Went along to the Lawns today for a carvery after seeing some of their posts on their Facebook page of the carvery. From what it looked like, this carvery was going to be amazing. Unfortunately that’s where it all went down hill. It looks as though they use the same video for each week so it’s nothing like what you expect it to be. When we turned up, weren’t greeted by anyone. We found ourselves a table just beside the carvery and then went to the bar to order. For a large carvery, a regular carvery and 2 drinks this came to over £30 which is a little pricey to begin with seeing as we only order half a pint of Pepsi and a J20. The gravy station was empty. All of the side sauces like your mint and your horse radish sauce were all empty. Nothing was stocked or fall up. We at first first thought maybe it had been really busy and they were just stocking up again. But we arrived at 5pm and there wasn’t a lot of people there at the time. From afar, the carvery looked nothing like what it did on their Facebook page. When we went up to the carvery station the chef wasn’t overly polite. I looked at the gammon and asked the chef if there was anymore there, to which he advised “there’s loads there mate” after lifting up a layer of gammon covered in pure fat. He said that he kept the fat on top of it as it helps the gammon from not going dry, this sadly wasn’t doing a single thing to the gammon as it felt like I was eating a tire which had been smothered in salt. Sadly the beef wasn’t much better it was tougher than a Southmeader after a few cans of Natch. The vegetable selection was dire. Frozen broccoli and cauliflower bunged together in a bowl, topped with cheese and popped in a microwave does not s cauliflower cheese make. This was hard to try and scoop out of the serving dish without burning yourself on the light above the carvery station, at one point I thought I was partaking in an episode of the Crystal Maze. Dry mash potato and swede, a handful of peas and chunky raw carrots. To top it all off as a disappointing visit there were zero roast potatoes. Which for a carvery is pretty poor, that’s a staple of the roast dinner. I asked the lady behind the counter how long they would be and she said they would still cooking and that they would be about 5 minutes and that she would bring some over to my table when they were ready. This never happened. By the time that they were finally ready and back on the counter I had finished my food and my partners had gone cold waiting for them. When looking at the roast potatoes you could tell these were frozen roast potatoes that had just been tossed into the oven. It’s sad really as the Lawns always used to do an amazing carvery back in the day where the food was constantly topped up and hot. Not anymore. Don’t think we will come again."

Great pub atmosphere and the food has improved massively since the new owners took over. The Sunday carvery is very good value for money and very tasty.

We had a family meal for twelve we chose the Sunday carvery. Food was plentiful and a very good choice of vegetables, I personally had the roast beef which was tender and tasty. Staff were attentive and seemed happy in the jobs. View menu

I stopped by this restaurant while passing through and needing to use the bathroom. The staff was incredibly polite and friendly, so I ended up staying for a drink. The atmosphere was inviting and pleasant. Although I didn't have a meal, I definitely plan to come back in the near future to try their food. I highly recommend this place.

We arrived just after 7 and grabbed some drinks before looking at the menus. There were both old and new menus with different prices and food selections. We went to the bar around 7:15 to order food, but were told that the kitchen was already closed. If the kitchen was closed, why were the menus still out? We don't think we'll be coming back here for food. View menu

I arrived at 12 and unfortunately everything was still being set up. I paid for the Carvery but had to wait about 15 minutes as the bar staff were still putting out beer mats on the bar and the kitchen was not ready to serve. When we finally got the food, it did not disappoint. The fresh vegetables, crispy potatoes, tender meat, and lovely vegetarian option were all delicious. I was pleasantly surprised as I had not been here in some time. I will definitely be back. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the wait at the beginning. However, I recommend going if you want a delicious roast.

The Festive Menu leaflet persuaded us to start Christmas early! So we booked our table for 2, but we were the only people having lunch at 2.30 pm so attention was all on us! We did not mind that no table was set for us, so we could sit where we preferred, and the waitress quickly laid on the cutlery and crackers. Our food and service was excellent, but (as the Festive Menu had only been on offer for a few days) the Clementine Tart was not available. A small disappointment, but it did not spoil our enjoyment of The Lawns warm and friendly service. We have been to The Lawns many times on speck for lunch or dinner, and the quality and quantity of the food, service and price, has always met our...

"Went for an impromptu meal with her indoors, as this was a local pub we've not been in for a long time we thought will pop in. Greeted by an over enthusiastic bar person who was dragging out the empties from the night before, ordered a couple of drinks and we sat down with the menu's, after perusing the menu we were ready to order, at the same time we were ready a regular couple walked in and sat at there regular table and oredered there regular meal, but the regular gentleman actually wanted an extra sausage with his sausage and chips, well! The kerfuffle this caused was astronomical, this conversation went on for Many many minutes, my wife and I was desperately trying to catch her attention to have another drink, eventually my wife went to the bar and waited, we got served eventually. Then our food came out of the kitchen, we went for the light bites as we were in a snacky mood, Chicken strips Mozzarella bites Chips with curry sauce and nachos. We never got the nachos as there was no guacamole BTW Chips came out which were actually fries, covered in this sauce, gross, then we had 3 chicken strips with no garnish £4.95 £1.63 each Then 4 mozzarella bites came out, no, nothing else just 4 mozzarella bites, £4.95 £1.24 each. So if you want have your pants pulled down and be robbed of your hard earned cash then this is the place to go, as for me and my wife we won't be. We did mention the poor quality and value for money but it was brushed under the dirty carpet and she was going to feed our comments back to the kitchen."

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
