"We (my husband, son and myself) often visit the lovely village of Berriew. We have a static caravan near Welshpool. We were spending the week at the caravan to close it down for the end of season. We have dined in the tea shop but have never been in the Lion Hotel. We planned to eat at the tea shop but there were no tables available so on the off chance we called in to the Lion. We were warmly welcomed by the Assistant Manager. We asked for the lunch menu and were shown into the amazing dining room. We chose baked potato with beans and the other with cheese. My husband chose the welsh rarebit. Our drinks were brought promptly to our table and the food followed soon after. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The chef came out to ask us if the food was okay. When my husband said the Welsh rarebit was the best he had ever tasted she said it was the first time she had cooked it. We would not hesitate to recommed the Lion to anyone looking for somewhere that bit special to eat. The Assistant Manager told us about the Monday Club where 2 courses are available for £10. We will certainly take advantage of this offer if it is still available in March 2023 when we return."

This was a very quirky delightful hotel. The landlord and his grandson couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant. Would certainly recommend

We were holidaying in our caravan and called into The Lion for a late afternoon drink. The atmosphere was so friendly, staff lovely and accommodating that we booked in for dinner on the Saturday night. The dinner was very good, promptly served and a decent price. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area. View menu

Awful what a change of management can make, was always made to feel very welcome visit at least 4 times a year and it was our special place but that has all gone with rude staff not helpful at all, food has gone downhill, and when you are stood outside and hear the staff laughing about how much they are going to rip of a booking thats coming in its no joke,

We have just returned after our first stay at The Lion Hotel, Berriew, for a family wedding, and we will definitely be returning. Our dinner on Friday evening was outstanding. Our Breakfasts were excellent with varied choices and the staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant, with Charlie, in particular, going over and above what was expected, to accommodate our every need. Thank you, to you all.

Booked for 4 people. Rang to ask for menu’s to be emailed. They weren’t. Rang again and got them. Service was friendly enough. I thought the Christmas turkey lunch was bland and the potatoes tasted like smash (for those of you that can remember that) Didn’t offer cranberry sauce, I had to go to ask in the kitchen. Dessert was ok but the baileys and mint cheesecake tasted of mint but no baileys. Coffee was lukewarm and cold mince pies. Very disappointed overall. I think this is the worst meal we have had at the Lion in all the times we have been for lunch/dinner. View menu

Our group of six buddies decided to treat ourselves to a night away at this delightful hotel and bistro. Four of us had been previously but it was a new experience for my partner and me. We were not disappointed. This wonderful, quirky historical building has been beautifully decorated in the most colourful, imaginative and artistically skilled fashion, it was a joy to be involved. Our meal from the festive menu was superb and the service faultless. Right down to the brilliant evening entertainment from local musicians, we couldn't have been made more welcome or wished for a lovelier time. We also had a gorgeous complimentary breakfast in the morning. We were made to feel very special and wi...

My sister booked a birthday party Saturday 10th December for 7 people. We had a lovely welcome and were shown to our table and offered drinks. We had a lovely 3 course meal, beautifully prepared and served with attention to detail with great customer service, attentive and easy going. The food was amazing, the Sea Bass main course presented on a bed of deliciously creamy mashed potato with 2 lovely roasted potatoes and superb range of seasonal vegetables, just enough, not too much! My dessert was the chocolate mousse with fruit pearls, just perfect! Amazing value!! £25ish for a 3 course Christmas meal, (not sure of the exact price as I didn't pay the bill for the food) It ticks a box for me...
