"After our car broke down mid journey to our holiday, we found ourselves stranded in Welshpool on a Sunday evening until a garage could help us. We decided to book somewhere to just get us and our 3 year old down for the night while we made a plan. The Lion Hotel was SO welcoming and friendly, our room specified an extra bed for the little one and it surpassed all expectations of a pull out cot bed. Instead we were given a beautiful double room with an adjoining simple single room with its own ensuite! Ideal for us so she could sleep and not be disturbed by our frantic phone calls to towing companies. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a fabulous selection of cooked items as well as fruits, yoghurts and cereals. We loved finding all the different art works, the decor is so fun and tactile. What could have been an incredibly stressful and disappointing night ended up being a wonderful experience and our daughter loved our mini holiday. Thank you for rescuing our weekend!"

Although the interior color scheme may be considered interesting, the food and service at this restaurant were excellent. The portions were generous, with tender beef, cheesy cauliflower cheese, and tasty gravy. My only complaint is that there were lamb decorations all around, but no lamb dishes on the menu.

We nipped to Berriew after going to Montgomery and the castle and Bunners of course! Then we called at The Lion at Berriew with our Springer, Fynn his first foray to a pub!Lovely warm welcome from Lee and Sam and a great pint of Monty’s.Lovely pub and lovely village. We got home and booked to stay there later in the year! Thank you.

We stayed a week at the Lion certainly one we won’t forget! The decor is distinctive. The hotel managers and their staff were helpful in the extreme and remarkably friendly and good humoured, despite staff shortages (a common problem in the hospitality industry at present) and the food was excellent. A great place to stay in a lovely village. View menu

Customer service was exceptional.....so friendly and professional. And some little touches that just made our visit a little bit more special... The food was superb.... lick the plate gorgeous! And great to see Quorn making it onto the menu as a star meal (I loved it). Decor is different but in a good way and again helps to create a special evening out.

Incredible service and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere at this restaurant. The food was bursting with flavor and adapted well to the current circumstances. Despite the staff wearing masks, we were still able to fully enjoy our meal and forget about the outside world. Definitely a must-try spot with delicious, perfectly cooked food. Thank you for a great experience!

After a glorious trip to the Andrew Logan museum we were very excited to visit the Lion for a quick drink before heading home. Unfortunately we were greeted by unhelpful and cold staff who had no interest in welcoming us or even attempting to serve us. Whilst drop ins on a bank holiday are tenuous (and often impossible to satisfy) it was the treatment by the staff that really shocked us and left an unpleasant taste in all our mouths. View menu

Oh wow! We were so looking forward to being able to return to The Lion and we weren’t disappointed, but then we never have been! They are a great team focused on the customer, they’ve got the social distancing off to perfection but you don’t feel that’s happening and it’s such a relaxing attentive experience in great surroundings. The food is all cooked to perfection, bursting with flavour, seasoned perfectly and artistically presented!! A totally enjoyable destination to visit and if your coming any distance or just fancy a break close by they have room as well! A place to visit? Totally

When is a Welsh rarebit not a Welsh rarebit? When the lunchtime chef at this restaurant has their way with it. Whatever was served to me in its place was likely not a Welsh rarebit. The spread was so thin on the toasted muffin that I couldn't even identify it. The dish was extremely dry, requiring an extra drink to wash it down. As a classically trained chef who has lived and worked in both South and North Wales, I know what I'm talking about. I had been eager to try Andy Logan's supposedly chic pub since its opening, but I was thoroughly disappointed by the experience. Even the "Uber chic" paint job was tacky and outdated, with patches and scratches visible everywhere. Overall, it was a let...
