"We ate here on our first of two nigths staying at the next door Ullswater Inn in Glenridding. The Orangery is a beautiful room. It is spacious. with nice views out. They could have crammed more tables in, but they haven 't which gives the dining experience a lovely ambience. The service was very good. So why only an average rating? It 's because we didn 't feel the food was better than average. We started by sharing foccacia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For £7.50 we got two small pieces of average foccacia with a very vinegary dip. It wasn 't good and even it had been it wouldn 't have been worth it. For main course, one of us had steak and ale pie with seasonal veg and mash with gravy. The steak and ale pie looked like it had been bought in with 1/3 of it served up to us. It looked twice baked. The meat was soft enough but verging on a mush in parts. It tasted reasonable but was not really flavoursome enough, The brocolli and cauliflower were both overcooked. Our other dish was vegan broad bean and pea burger with chips. The 'burger ' was a little mushy with a mild flavour. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here much more than at the next door Ullswater Inn and the price was similar. However, we felt that it would and should have been so much better if the food had been better."

We enjoyed a delicious lunch in a peaceful setting that exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this charming restaurant. While it may be a bit pricey, the quality of the food makes it well worth the cost.

Stunning location unbelievable views of Ullswater. Silver service lunch immaculate. Food was impressively served at a cost. Would recommend as an excellent experience just for the beautiful views and the genteel setting impressive afternoon teas available.

We called into to Glenridding for a comfort break The Inn on the lake offering its own private parking was a must on a very busy sunny Sunday! The food is expensive but very well presented and the portion sizes reasonable. A very pleasant visit and will definitely call again! We may even take a room next time View menu

We enjoyed an overnight stay at the IOTL to celebrate our wedding anniversary after marrying here 2 years before. Everything about this wonderful hotel is superb; the accommodation, the location, the staff, the food and drink, the landscape, the ambience, the comfort, the cleanliness, the new terrace We will be back!

Stunning hotel, should easily be a 5 star establishment. Beautiful 360 views, at the foot of the mountains and just by a large lake with clear water. Staff are very accommodating. We went in as a large group of 40 as a last minute decision and we’re accommodated to private dine. Such an unforgettable day and attentive staff.

We ate here two nights out of the three we were staying at the hotel. The first night, two of the main courses had run out, even though we were there at 7.00pm on a Friday! No alternatives were offered and this was very limiting, as they were meat/fish dishes. The following evening, the menu was replenished, though the soup was the same as the previous night. I had the reinstated fish pie and my husband the reinstated lamb stew. The vegetables were well cooked (firm as we both like), but bland and fairly tasteless. No herbs or seasoning... just boiled and dumped on the plate. My fish pie was more potato than fish in sauce, and there was very little sauce for the fish, never mind the bland ve... View menu

We were booked in as part of the wedding party. The place is stunning and could not fault the staff and the food was excellent! The problem I had was travelling up on the day and would have liked some where to get changed. We were requested to arrive by 12 as the ceremony was at 1:00 I emailed the hotel and below is the reply (for rooms that are over £200 per night and we were guest at the wedding) We had a look on line and they actually had rooms free that day “We recommend booking the night before to guarantee you are in the room early in the morning of the wedding. In case your room will not be available before 2.00pm, we can offer the use of the disabled toilet, next to the reception are...

Went to the restaurant for lunch in this beautifully set location. We decided to dine here instead of the nearby cafe to treat ourselves whilst on holiday, when we came across this picturesque town. We greeted warmly at the hotel reception. Unfortunately it was a very poor dining experience, service was slow and we had to chase at every stage of service and it was as if they had forgotten our mains. Had to order my toddlers meal at the bar to ensure he would be fed. And when our food finally arrived, it wasn’t reflective of what we ordered for example, Moroccan dish, which was described to include ingredients such as cranberries but when the dish arrived, it was a British Indian style curry...

"We had a disappointing experience during our stay. The bedroom was quite cold, and despite asking for the heating to be turned on, we had to sit in our coats. The bathroom was freezing each morning, and the dining room didn't offer much relief either. The heating was activated for just one hour, which meant the radiator was cold again when we returned to our room. Their cost-cutting measures significantly impacted our enjoyment. We raised our concerns multiple times, but there was no one available when we settled the bill. At £100 per night for bed and breakfast (totaling over £200 including dinner), it was frustrating to be so uncomfortable. Another guest mentioned they had complained about the heating during their previous visit, only to be told there was an ongoing issue. It seems they simply won’t turn on the heating. We won’t be returning, especially since it’s quite a drive to get into town. Regarding the room, we were assigned an attic room (Room 8). It had many steep stairs and low headroom in places. While the bathroom was nice, it was also freezing. The towel rail was pointless since it was stone cold, and my husband had to skip his morning shower due to the chill. We ended up moving to Room 7, which was smaller but slightly warmer despite having a cold bathroom. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly, and the lights were all or nothing. The next morning, we moved our belongings back to Room 8 since they finally decided to turn on the electric wall heater—which they could have done from the outset. It only took the chill off for a little while. On our last night, we experienced a brief boost of heat, but it only lasted an hour. When we returned after dinner, the room was already cool again. As for nearby activities, there’s a park across a busy road, but everything else requires driving to reach shops and restaurants. Safety-wise, the hotel faces a main road, and there are very few parking spaces available (around four); otherwise, you need to park on the main road. Walking to town is possible, but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes downhill. In terms of food and drinks, the breakfast was decent. When asked if we wanted toast, we received just one slice on the same plate as the cooked breakfast. After asking for more, we had to wait a while before we were given another slice. Dinner was acceptable but nothing to write home about; it felt overpriced compared to the excellent authentic Indian restaurant we found in town, which served great food at better prices and opened at 5 PM. Overall, I'd recommend bringing warm clothes for both the bedroom and dining area; we even saw another guest sitting in her coat the entire time."
