"we decided to try a meal in the tavern in hale, as the Specials menu looks really imaginative and different lately. I have to admit that I could not resist the burger and rider, the burger was like steak,...but my more adventurous partner went for 2 starter the pfanne fried könig prawns and squid, which was really very good and the bone with asian nudelsalat .was amazing. a dame on the next table told us that she had only one starter so she could order 2 puddings. I expected them to order 2 different puddings, but she ordered 2 portions of cocos rice pudding with around and rosin and pineapple that she had before and said was the best hot pudding she had ever. many thanks to the team in the tavern, the nice bar staff and all involved in the creation and delivery of such a beautiful and special menu. we are looking forward to another meal with them as soon as possible! probably Sunday dinner, as I heard it is also fabulous."

Enjoyable midweek, two night DB&B stay in comfortable, if compact, accommodation on the fringe of the Lake District. Friendly attentive staff, delicious food with special mentions for the Sunday Roast and real ale offering. Would recommend a visit.

Have eaten a few times, mainly at lunchtime. The food was excellent, well presented and tasty. We went for Sunday Lunch, once again excellent, however they only have roast beef. Another choice or two would be great plus a vegetarian dish. Well worth a visit

I just want to stay one big thanks to the manager and his daughter to turn a negative visit into one where we will visit again and again. if every restaurant or pub had employees like this 2 then the whole industry would be. a better place. many thanks again and we will soon be back with frank the sausage dog

today visited for my dancing funeral and was blown away by the food. omg, the most beautiful of a wake I had. a mixture of fingersandwiches, hot sausage roll and selection of finger cakes and skorn with coffee. Five stars. the place is a jewellery and the personal is wonderful to such a sad time especially. Thank you.

Stayed here for a work trip for three nights. Room was clean and comfortable with a very nice bathroom, both rooms a good size. Left too early for breakfast but was offered a packed lunch instead. The food served in the evenings is excellent. It...is a fairly simple menu but all cooked with great flavour and use of herbs. Location beside the A6 is convenient--the road is quiet at night so noise is not an issue. I'd certainly recommend this pub to anyone wishing for a place to stay in the area--it is also a good location for walking as it is very close to a number of AONBs. I'll be back with my wife at some point for a walking break.

I am so glad that the tavern is flowering and full on Saturday. the menu is absolutely perfected, with everything from pub ceremonies, to modern almost food, to more demanding fish dishes. everything is local and made from ground on. I had the chili and garlic...prawns and splashed for the starter, followed by the heke, with whistle, new kartoffels, saphir and a curry veloute for pornstar. I had to share the main thing with baba as she was a huge fan of it! my man had the Korean fried chickenburger, and it's a fight to find out who had the better guy. the burger was up there with some of the best I tried from the top bq connections. they also have many local gins in offer, so it is a great s...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
