"smart but relaxing village pub in rural South East Wales, a few miles from the A48 between chepstow and newport. the employees are particularly friendly and friendly in this food-oriented operation, but the drinkers are also welcome here, and they seem to have gone out of their way in their post lockdown reopening preparations. eating is exceptionally good; not cheap, but good value given the quality and the generous portion sizes. the menu for most flavors and I chose the special of the day, the filet of cornish plaice and a huge piece of fish it was, perfectly cooked and served with a well selected selection of fresh vegetables. this was very nicely washed out with an excellent pint butty bach. the pub also offers a small beer garden."

An ideal place for that special evening out. The food is all prepared and cooked in house by the owner/chef Keith using locally sourced ingredients

After a five mile walk aroung the Best Kept Village of Llanvair Discoed and down the Coombe valley our rambling club called into the Woodlands Tavern for lunch. The choice of meals was good and the portions generous. Members especially enjoyed the beetroot salad starter...and the huge dish of moulds mariniere. Both the set lunch menu and the specials were delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Nice pub, staff polite when we arrived. Service very good food excellent. We opted for their 2 courses for £12.00, not a bad selection , and the normal menu not too expensive either. We both had the garlic mushrooms, which were served hot and were...very tasty. The main course was Cornish fish, which was haddock. The batter was excellent never tasted anything like it, very thin and moist, fish was cooked to perfection aswell. Will certainly return to sample more, highlt recommended

at my visit here, with a few friends I had not seen in one because I was very disappointed, service was terrible, the staff is rude and not helpful. I was ignored long before I called someone to help the food was poor, reheated veg and my friend had a steak that was not cooked as she asked. the “managers” were very busy with other guests I took as friends, maybe if I were a regular, would I be treated differently? who knows. manager had an aggressive ton opposite to the guests and their employees, which I found rude and disdainable. I also noticed a beehive on the side of the building when we were gone. very poor! very cliquey area. will not come back and warn others of these problems.
