"The natural tendency to route for the underdog and try out a small snack bar is usually curbed by the rational mind saying there must be a good reason it is small and empty. If only I had listened to the force of reason! The Udagawa Snack Bar on Kantstrasse - not to be confused with the very good Japanese restaurant of the same name on the Feuerbachstrasse - was not worth the visit. I ordered the tempora moriawase teishoku (16 Euros), teishoku meaning that it is a "meal set" with soup, salad, rice and dessert. Salad and dessert each consisted of a minute tray with 3 pieces of pickled vegetable and fruit, nothing to fault except for the size. The miso soup was acceptable, but not noteworthy. The rice didn't look appetizing and I didn't try it. The main course, the tempora, contained 3 ebi and 4 thin slices of vegetables. The batter was tasteless and the consistence of the ingredients was either over- or undercooked. The dip, really the most important item, was thin like tea and without any redeeming culinary qualities. It was just a waste of time and money and I give my solemn promise never to come back for a return visit."

Udagawa is my homeboy I don't even see why I should justify my love to this place since I am not even willing to accept any other rating for this...

Had the Spicy-Sour Soup. Amazing for somebody who wants to pay for a quick Maggi Minute soup. Very disappointing, especially because it was so much... View menu

I love this place since it has some nice authentic atmosphere. The food is great. Everything except sushi, since they do not specialize on that. And the tea...

Tasty japanese food. I've been here with my family and tried different kinds of dishes (sushi, ramen, curry). They were all very delicious. We will come back again.

It tasted better before. The Portion got smaller and more expensive. They also used to have half a portion katso so I could order a soup or spring roll with it. Not anymore. View menu

This place has been here forever and I decided to try it again for lunch after more than 15+ years. It still has the same heavy cloying sauces and deep-fried smell in the self service area. The only reason for this place is to be fill with bland and heavy food. But the service was friendly, quick and attentive.

I would never get into a place with that look, at least from the outside perspective. But we had strong advices to go there. And fortunatelly we did!The food is very genuine and the prices are more than fair. People might say it's not a real japanese place. Wrong: we saw the two people working in the kitchen and they were speaking japanese (and german with the lady-in-charge-with-the-service). I know, a real japanese restaurant has to be both expansive and cozy. This one is NOT, but it offers real japanese food and german fair prices.
